Job Title: Certified Medical Coder – Inpatient
Employment Type: Contract
Duration: 3+ Months (Possible Extension)

Shift: Day Shift | 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Pay Rate: $30/hour (W2)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Certified Medical Coder – Inpatient to support acute care hospital operations. The coder will be responsible for accurate assignment of diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient and emergency department records, ensuring compliance with coding, billing, and regulatory guidelines.
Experience Requirements: (Must To Have)
Must have EPIC and 3M experience CCS certification required - must be from AHIMA, RHIA or RHIT.
Ideal candidate has both inpatient and outpatient coding experience.
MUST HAVE previous experience working with Clinical Documentation Specialist's Work Arrangement: Starts onsite for training, then transitions to remote work once duties are mastered.
Additional Notes: Seeking certified coders with strong In-patient coding background. Candidate should be able to work with minimal training.
Key Responsibilities
Perform medical coding for inpatient and emergency department encounters
Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT codes in accordance with official coding guidelines
Ensure compliance with payor requirements, federal billing regulations, and documentation standards
Utilize encoder and coding software tools (including 3M/HDS) effectively
Research and resolve complex coding-related issues
Maintain productivity and accuracy standards in a high-volume acute care environment
Assist with coder education and training as needed
Communicate effectively with clinical documentation and revenue cycle teams
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum 3 years of inpatient medical coding experience
Strong knowledge of ICD-10 coding guidelines
Experience coding Inpatient and Emergency Department records
Proficiency with:
ICD-10-CM / ICD-10-PCS
CPT-4
Encoder tools
Microsoft Word and Excel
3M/HDS coding application
Solid understanding of:
Anatomy, physiology, and disease processes
Federal billing and payer guidelines
Education & Certifications
High School Diploma or GED (required)
One or more of the following certifications (required):
CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
RHIA or RHIT (AHIMA)
CCP
