Medical Assistant - Role Summary
The Medical Assistant (Primary Care & Float) plays an essential role in supporting safe, efficient, and patient-centered medical care within an outpatient clinic environment. Working under the general supervision of providers and nursing staff, this role combines clinical and administrative responsibilities to ensure smooth daily operations and high-quality patient experiences. The Medical Assistant collaborates closely with primary care providers, nurses, specialty providers, and clinic staff while delivering compassionate support to a frail and elderly patient population.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Support
Assist medical staff, including primary care and on-site specialty providers, in delivering efficient and high-quality patient care
Prepare patients for appointments, including room setup, check-in, and check-out, and gather accurate histories of present illness
Perform pre-exam procedures such as measuring, documenting, and reporting vital signs as ordered
Assist providers during examinations and procedures as appropriate
Perform authorized clinical procedures (e.g., dressing changes, suture removal) under physician supervision and within scope of practice
Collect, prepare, and process laboratory specimens as ordered
Perform routine sterilization of medical and dental equipment according to established guidelines
Triage and support unscheduled requests for provider visits as directed
Perform and document ordered care and procedures, providing patient education as appropriate
Conduct staff and non-staff COVID testing as needed
Specialty & Float Responsibilities
Proactively review specialist schedules to ensure appointment availability is optimized
Coordinate and distribute weekly schedules for on-site specialty providers
Prepare patients for specialty visits, ensuring complete histories and relevant clinical information are available
Ensure specialty providers have current orders and necessary documentation
Document specialty procedures and care provided in the electronic medical record system
Administrative & Operational Support
Maintain clinic logs and ensure exam rooms are stocked, sanitized, and ready for patient encounters
Maintain daily emergency cart logs
Monitor and maintain medication and vaccine refrigerator logs
Manage sharps containers and maintain required logs
Perform quality control checks on clinic laboratory equipment and maintain documentation
Support clinic operations by maintaining equipment, supplies, and workflow efficiency
Required Qualifications
Minimum of two (2) years of Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting serving a frail or elderly population
Minimum age of 18 years
Graduate of a two-year Medical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES
Current Medical Assistant certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Strong clinical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
Commitment to delivering compassionate care to vulnerable senior populations
Desired Qualifications
Experience working in home health or outpatient clinical settings
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
Location & Work Type
Work Type: On-site, clinic-based
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
