Location:
Start in Chicago (Chinatown), then transition to Hobart, Indiana.
You’ll begin your first few months working in our Chicago lab while the new Hobart lab is completed. Once open, Hobart will become your primary location.
This position is ideal for an experienced cement or concrete professional who can work independently, apply testing standards consistently, and support lab quality, research, and troubleshooting in a collaborative environment.
Where You’ll Work (Important)
- First few months: Ozinga’s cement materials lab in Chicago (Chinatown area)
- Long term: The new Hobart, IN cement materials lab once it opens
What You’ll Do
You’ll support cement quality, research, and development by performing routine testing and helping improve materials and processes.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Prepare, test, and evaluate cement, cementitious materials, mortar, and concrete using ASTM and AASHTO standards
- Label, track, and organize samples; compile and document accurate test data
- Assist with test reports and maintain clear, organized laboratory records
- Calibrate, maintain, and perform preventative maintenance on lab equipment
- Troubleshoot minor equipment or testing issues and escalate larger concerns to the Lab Director
- Assist in investigating unusual or unexpected test results
- Follow safety procedures during lab and field testing
- Support quality systems, including documentation for the Quality Manual, CCRL inspections, internal audits, calibrations, and corrective actions to maintain AASHTO accreditation
- Participate in lab meetings to share findings and align on priorities
- Support research, development, and troubleshooting efforts across the Cement Division
- Collaborate with the Lab Director and technical teams to design and execute experiments
- Lead mortar and concrete lab work and help coordinate daily schedules and results for junior Cement Materials Technicians
- Contribute to training documentation and accreditation support for junior technicians
What You Bring
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- ACI Certified Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I
- Minimum 5 years of cement or concrete experience
- Ability to follow procedures, document work accurately, and work safely
- Comfortable using basic computer systems for data entry, reports, and communication
Nice to Have (Not Required):
- ACI Certified Mortar Lab Technician
Experience working in a laboratory or quality control environment
You’ll be successful if you are:

- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Professional, dependable, and safety-minded
- Calm and composed in fast-paced or high-pressure situations
Schedule
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm
- Occasional extended hours or weekend work as testing needs require
- Includes periodic rotational Saturdays
