Position Overview
Winter Environmental is seeking a skilled CDL Equipment Operator with experience operating vacuum excavation units, air movers, and related heavy equipment to support environmental and industrial field operations. This role operates heavy equipment on a range of remediation, utility, environmental system install, and industrial service projects. The ideal candidate is mechanically capable, safety-driven, and comfortable working in diverse field environments including construction, remediation, utility, and industrial sites.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
- Safely operate and maintain:
- Vacuum excavation units (hydro/vac)
- Air movers
- Water trucks, support trucks, and auxiliary heavy equipment
- Perform digging, trench support, potholing, debris removal, and surface prep tasks using specialized equipment.
- Execute utility support operations including locating, trench exposure, and material handling.
Field Support & Execution
- Assist field crews with setup, site logistics, and project execution.
- Coordinate closely with project superintendents and equipment teams to meet production goals.
- Perform daily equipment checks, fueling, and maintenance documentation.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow company safety protocols, job hazard analyses, and site-specific HASP requirements.
- Maintain awareness of overhead utilities, underground services, and site conditions.
- Adhere to OSHA, environmental, and client safety standards at all times.
Documentation
- Complete daily field logs, time sheets, equipment reports, and maintenance records.
- Report equipment issues, safety concerns, and field conditions promptly to supervision.
Travel & Collaboration
- Operate on projects throughout the Southeast.
- Communicate daily with field leadership and support office coordination.
- Promote teamwork, communication, and disciplined execution across crews.
Required Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A (or Class B depending on fleet) with a clean driving record.
- Minimum 2+ years of heavy equipment operation including vacuum excavators and air movers, or similar support equipment.
- Proven ability to perform safe, high-quality operation under field conditions.
- Ability to pass drug screening, background check, and DOT compliance requirements.
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow direction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in environmental, utility, or construction operations.
- Familiarity with vacuum excavation safety practices and SOPs.
- Training or certifications relevant to equipment operation and safety.
- Experience with underground utility locating overlay systems.
- Ability to perform basic mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance.
