Work Location: Hybrid – This role offers a combination of remote and in-office work, with occasional travel required based on manager needs.
Leads and manages the medical coding team to ensure precise and timely coding of medical records in compliance with regulatory standards. Oversees the development and enforcement of coding policies and procedures to uphold data quality and integrity. Coordinates ongoing training programs to enhance coder expertise and monitors productivity and accuracy metrics to drive continuous improvement. Collaborates with clinical and administrative teams is essential to resolve coding issues and optimize documentation, while ensuring strict adherence to HIPAA and confidentiality regulations. Reviews complex coding cases, guides appropriate code assignments, and leads audits to maintain compliance with healthcare coding standards.
Responsibilities:Key Responsibilities
Lead the medical coding team to ensure accurate and timely coding in compliance with established standards and regulations.
Develop, implement, and enforce coding policies and procedures.
Coordinate ongoing training programs to enhance coder knowledge and expertise.
Monitor productivity and accuracy metrics to support quality improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to resolve coding issues and improve documentation.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain strict confidentiality standards.
Review complex coding cases and conduct audits to maintain compliance with healthcare coding guidelines.
Education Requirements:
Associate degree in Nursing (ADN)OR
Unlicensed physician who has graduated from a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools as meeting eligibility requirements for its graduates to apply to the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) for certification and examination at the time of graduation
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in medical coding, including leadership or management of coding teams
Strong expertise in coding policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance
Experience coordinating coder training, auditing, and quality assurance programs
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and confidentiality requirements
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex coding issues and documentation discrepancies
