The Entry-Level Carpenter (job code 002804) herein described works in Facilities Services at the University of Florida (UF). The incumbent assists senior workers with installing, repairing, and preventatively maintaining ceiling tiles, ceiling grids, fixed classroom seating, windows, window frames, window screens, various types of flooring, vinyl and ceramic tiles, wall bases, molding, metal and wood doors and doorframes, mortise locks, hinges, exit devices, door closers, handicapped door operators, and other door hardware. He/she assists with building counter tops; pouring, forming, and finishing concrete; laying block and brick; and repairing plaster. The incumbent supports other trades and contractors, cleans and maintains the shop and all related equipment, operates a UF vehicle, and performs other duties (as assigned). May participate in the Facilities Services FaST Path Program. He/she begins the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core. May participate in the NCCER Carpentry Level 1 curriculum.

Classification Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Job Description:

Assists with installing, repairing, and preventatively maintaining ceiling tiles and ceiling grids

Assists with installing, repairing, and preventatively maintaining fixed classroom seating, windows, window frames, and window screens

Assists with installing, repairing, and preventatively maintaining various types of flooring, vinyl and ceramic tiles, wall bases, and molding; assists with building counter tops

Assists with installing, repairing, and preventatively maintaining metal and wood doors and doorframes, mortise locks, hinges, exit devices, door closers, handicapped door operators, and other door hardware

Assists with pouring, forming, and finishing concrete; laying block and brick; and repairing plaster

Supports other trades and contractors; cleans/maintains shop and all related equipment

Operates UF vehicle (truck)

State of Florida Class E operator license (required)

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:

- Schedule may vary depending on location

- 40 hours per week

- Position considered as Essential Personnel as defined by UF Policy

Expected Salary:

$17.00 Hourly
