At least 3 years of experience in bar or hospitality management. Previous experience in a private club or veteran service organization is highly preferred.
High school diploma is required, a degree in Hospitality Management or Business is a plus.
Must have a large reliable vehicle for at least one (1) hour a day to pick up supplies, do banking, and run errands.
Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse demographic of ages and backgrounds.
Proficiency in basic Excel/Accounting and Inventory Management software, and spreadsheets.
Bookkeeping
Ability to stand/walk for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs(kegs/cases) and work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
You will be on call during hours of operation and be available by phone 24 hours per day.
A special requirement is that you must have a clean background check and in many cases you have to be bonded.
Operations & Bar Management - Oversee daily canteen operations, including opening and closing procedures. Maintains inventory control: order liquor, beer, wine, soda and snacks, tickets, and other small games of chance, restroom supplies, cleaning supplies, and general operating inventory to ensure optimal stock levels. Be aware of special needs from members and fulfill those needs when possible. Negotiate with vendors and distributors to ensure competitive prices. Ensure all equipment (taps, refrigeration, cash register) is in good working order, if not, contact the necessary personnel to repair the equipment and or perform routine building repairs as needed.
Financial Management & Accountability -Manage the canteen budget, including labor costs and cost of goods sold, accounts payable and accounts receivable. Oversee daily cash handling, deposits, and till reconciliations, which includes tickets, small games of chance, and special drawings. Provide regular financial reports to the Board of Directors. Monitor all licenses and permits needed to keep the Post in good standing and submit renewal applications and monies in a timely manner to prevent expiration. Monitor profit margins and adjust pricing or portions as necessary to meet financial goals.
Personnel Management - Recruit, hire, train, and terminate (if necessary) all bar personnel. Manage a cleaning person who keeps the bar and restrooms clean and supplied. Schedule canteen staff ensuring adequate coverage for daily shifts and special events. Supervise staff performance and conduct regular evaluations. Ensure all staff hold valid certifications, such as an alcohol management class, attend an in person Ramp class, or have a state mandated liquor service permit. Foster a positive team environment that prioritizes member service.
Member Relations & Events - Act as a primary point of contact for club members, ensuring a respectful and friendly environment. Coordinate and promote canteen events (e.g. holiday parties, meat raffles, game nights, live music). Enforce club rules and maintain order within the canteen area, addressing member conduct issues professionally. Collaborate with the Legionaries, Sons of the American Legion, the Auxiliary, and the Legion Riders for special functions.
Compliance & Safety - Ensure strict adherence to all local, state, and federal liquor laws. Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation. Manage building security for the canteen area and ensure the safety of all patrons and assets. Train staff on "Responsible Service of Alcohol" and emergency procedures.
The Canteen Manager is the heart of our club's social operations. You will be responsible for the daily operations, management, and financial health of the club's canteen and bar facilities. This role requires a unique balance of professional hospitality management and a deep respect for the veterans community. The Manager ensures a welcoming atmosphere for members and guests while maintaining strict compliance with the state liquor laws, health regulations, and club bylaws.
