CBIZ Talent Solutions has been engaged by its New York City construction client to identify a heavy civil construction Buyer for its growing team.
Heavy Civil Construction experience needed.
Responsible for procuring materials, equipment, and subcontracted services for heavy civil and infrastructure projects across NYC. Works closely with Project Managers, Estimators, and Field Operations to solicit competitive bids and ensure timely, cost-effective purchasing aligned with project schedules.
Key responsibilities (short list)
- Source and purchase concrete, rebar, steel, aggregates, pipe, asphalt, precast, equipment rentals, and construction services.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor/subcontractor bids; analyze pricing, scope, and lead times.
- Issue purchase orders and subcontracts; track and expedite deliveries to job sites.
- Build and maintain supplier relationships; negotiate pricing, terms, and schedules.
- Coordinate with project teams to align procurement with drawings, specs, and schedules; maintain accurate records in ERP/CM systems.
Qualifications (short list)
- 3+ years of heavy civil construction buying/procurement experience (required).
- Strong knowledge of civil materials, equipment, and subcontractor scopes.
- Experience supporting infrastructure/utility/sitework projects; NYC public agency experience (DOT/MTA/DEP/DOB) preferred.
- Proficient with procurement/ERP systems; strong negotiation, organization, and communication skills.
- No degree required; equivalent industry experience accepted.
Work environment: Office-based with frequent coordination with project sites and teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.
Compensation: $70,000–$95,000, commensurate with experience
