Description

Percheron is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to help strengthen how data is used to drive decisions across the organization. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain trusted enterprise reporting by developing high?quality Power BI semantic models and delivering core dashboards relied upon by leadership, project teams, and clients.

The Business Intelligence Engineer plays a key role in improving consistency, clarity, and confidence in Percheron’s reporting by implementing standardized, leadership?approved metric definitions and reducing redundant or conflicting reports. You will translate business and operational needs into clear, performant, and well?governed reporting solutions that scale across projects and functions.

This is a hands?on role for a Power BI expert who enjoys partnering with stakeholders, simplifying complex data, and creating reporting experiences that are easy to use, reliable, and actionable. Success in this position means improving adoption of enterprise reporting, strengthening data trust, and enabling Percheron teams to make better, faster decisions using shared insights.

Job Responsibilities

Power BI Semantic Model Ownership

  • Assess, refactor, and enhance existing Power BI semantic models, including models built by third parties, to ensure clarity, performance, and long-term maintainability.
  • Standardize business logic by migrating calculations and transformations from individual reports into reusable, governed semantic models.
  • Publish and maintain certified datasets and shared measure sets to ensure leadership-approved metric definitions are implemented consistently across teams.

Core Dashboard Design & Maintenance

  • Design, redesign, and maintain core enterprise dashboards to improve usability, performance, and clarity.
  • Create role-based reporting experiences (e.g., executive, operational) and avoid overly complex “do-everything” dashboards.
  • Optimize report performance through model optimization, DAX tuning, visual optimization, and reliable refresh configurations.

Reporting Portfolio Rationalization

  • Inventory existing reports and dashboards to identify redundancy, conflicting narratives, and opportunities for consolidation.
  • Recommend and support dashboard consolidation or retirement plans.
  • Establish lightweight standards for determining when a new dashboard is warranted versus enhancing existing reporting.

Quality, Documentation, and Governance

  • Maintain KPI catalogs and metric documentation, including definitions, measure logic, assumptions, and usage guidance.
  • Implement and follow structured release and change practices, including testing checklists, versioning, and impact documentation.
  • Monitor data freshness, reliability, and refresh behavior; troubleshoot failures and address recurring root causes.
  • Apply best practices for data validation, refresh scheduling, and maintaining source-of-truth consistency.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Enablement

  • Conduct structured discovery for core dashboards by gathering requirements, understanding decision use cases, and defining success criteria.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to iterate on reporting solutions based on feedback and evolving needs.
  • Collaborate with data and source system owners to resolve data quality and integration issues.
  • Contribute to documentation and training materials; deliver enablement or usage training as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Proven end-to-end delivery experience in Power BI, including semantic modeling, DAX measure development, and dashboard/report design.
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Semantic model design (relationships, star schema concepts, reusable measures)
    • DAX development (measure patterns, performance tuning, calculation logic)
    • Row-Level Security (RLS) and permissioning patterns
    • Power Query (M) and connecting to multiple data sources
    • Microsoft Fabric capabilities for data ingestion and curation
  • Strong SQL proficiency, including writing and troubleshooting queries (joins, aggregations, filters) and validating results.
  • Experience standardizing, documenting, and governing KPI definitions and metrics.
  • Understanding of API integrations and data ingestion patterns.
  • Experience maintaining certified/shared datasets, documentation, naming conventions, and change control practices.
  • Ability to translate business questions into clear reporting requirements, success criteria, and realistic implementation plans.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain tradeoffs, assumptions, and definitions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, planning, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to moderate competing inputs, align stakeholders on priorities, and set clear expectations on scope and limitations.
  • Willingness to assume new or additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Ability to work autonomously and to collaborate fully as a team player.
  • Ability to pay close attention to details, and present good planning, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance as per work schedule agreed with the manager (may require working an adjusted work schedule based on project assigned and work overtime if warranted).
  • Ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations and Company policies and procedures.
