Position Overview:
- Highly analytical, hands-on Senior Business Analyst / Project Manager at the Vice President level to lead compliance-focused technology initiatives within Financial Services.
- This role is based in Tokyo, Japan, and requires deep expertise in data analysis, data modeling, and compliance information architecture, along with a strong understanding of Asia Pacific regulatory frameworks.
- Hands-on experience in Cash Equities, including booking models and end-to-end trade flows particularly in support of Trade Surveillance and RegTech implementations.
- The role will lead stakeholder engagement across the region and requires full professional fluency in both Japanese and English.
Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Requirements & Business Analysis:
- Partner with business and compliance stakeholders to gather, interpret, and document regulatory requirements across multiple compliance domains, including:
- Trade Surveillance
- E-Communications Surveillance
- Financial Crime (AML, KYC, Sanctions Screening)
- Control Room and Conflicts Clearance
- Central Compliance
- Translate complex regulatory and compliance requirements into clear, actionable functional and data specifications.
- Support trade, transaction, and position-based regulatory reporting and surveillance obligations under Asia Pacific regulatory regimes, including JFSA, BOJ, MAS, HKMA/SFC, FSC, SEBI, and RBI.
- Analyze end-to-end trade lifecycle events—including order capture, routing, execution, allocation, confirmation, settlement, and post-trade enrichment—to support surveillance and regulatory reporting use cases.
- Apply experience with compliance and regulatory platforms such as SMARTS, OneTick, NICE Actimize, Oracle OFSAA, AxiomSL, UnaVista, and internally developed compliance and surveillance systems.
- Partner with business and compliance stakeholders to gather, interpret, and document regulatory requirements across multiple compliance domains, including:
- Data Analysis & Modeling:
- Perform hands-on data analysis to validate requirements and support solution design.
- Develop and maintain data models supporting compliance reporting, surveillance, auditability, and regulatory controls.
- Use SQL and related data tools to analyze trade data, booking models, and upstream/downstream flows.
- Compliance Architecture & RegTech Integration:
- Contribute to the design and evolution of the firm's compliance information and data architecture.
- Support the evaluation and implementation of RegTech solutions for surveillance, monitoring, and regulatory reporting.
- Ensure alignment with global compliance standards and Asia Pacific regional regulatory expectations, with a particular focus on Japan.
- Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Lead and mentor a small team of Business Analysts, driving high-quality delivery and collaboration.
- Act as a key liaison between Tokyo-based stakeholders and global business, compliance, and technology teams.
- Present analysis, findings, and solution recommendations to senior stakeholders in both Japanese and English.
- Participate in governance forums and contribute to the prioritization of regulatory and compliance initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience as a Business Analyst in Compliance and Regulatory Technology within Financial Services.
- Strong knowledge of Asia Pacific financial regulations, with demonstrated experience supporting Japanese regulatory requirements.
- Hands-on experience with Cash Equities, including booking models and trade flows for Trade Surveillance.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Python, Excel, Tableau).
- Proven experience designing and implementing RegTech and compliance technology solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor analysts in a matrixed environment.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to operate independently and drive initiatives in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
- Bilingual proficiency in Japanese and English (written and spoken) is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Business Analysis or Compliance certifications (e.g., CBAP, ICA, CAMS).
- Experience working with Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies.
