Job Title: BREAKFAST HOST

 

SUMMARY

This position would be primarily responsible for setting up, maintaining and breaking down the breakfast buffet and for maintaining the breakfast dining area.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The position requires the ability to perform the following essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Greet the guests in a friendly and courteous manner and present any specials for guest awareness.
  • Check and stock stations before, during and after shift for proper set‐up and cleanliness.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all equipment is in working order.
  • Visually inspects and takes corrective action to ensure that facilities in the service areas look appealing and attractive to guests.
  • Prepare all food items away from guest visibility.
  • Prepare breakfast food and beverage items and set out all hot and cold food items following all food safety regulations.
  • Replenish all food and beverage items during the meal period. Keep all items fully stocked even up until the last minute we are open. Ensure all foods are kept at safe temperatures.
  • Keep all tables bussed and cleaned throughout the entire time breakfast is open.
  • Ensure all tables are properly cleaned, and the dining area is free from debris.
  • Minimize waste and spoilage by properly storing all items for future use.
  • Perform inventory on assigned days and inform manager of immediate supply needs.
  • Verify deliveries of service items and properly store the contents on delivery days.
  • Always build rapport with all guests, solving problems when able and reporting any complaints or issues immediately to management for resolution.
  • Create and maintain a pleasant presentation for breakfast.
  • Maintain a clean breakfast area, store food, and remove all trash. Take trash out to dumpster as needed.
  • Continuously look for cost-effective ways to improve breakfast appeal.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures that relate to the breakfast area as well as all local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Properly maintains the daily log, including accounting for completed tasks, tracking issued keys and reviewing the communications log and file on a routine basis.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with established company policies and procedures to achieve the overall objectives of this position.
  • At all times projects a favorable image of Northwest x Southern Hospitality to the public.
  • Maintains safe working conditions within department and Hotel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS The qualifications listed below are representative of those required, but reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job. 

Education/Experience: 

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Sufficient education and literacy are needed to identify and read product labels and to communicate with guests about job-related needs.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in basic English.
  • 1+ year’s customer service experience, and/or 1+ years food and beverage experience preferred.

Knowledge: 

  • Must have a experience dealing with the public and acquired knowledge of basic customer service skills.

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to prioritize and organize work.
  • Ability to use telephone/radio communications between manager/supervisor and team members.
  • Ability to listen effectively and to communicate with customers and team members.
  • Ability to maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance (specific standards available).
  • Ability to follow work schedule.
  • Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of guests.
  • Ability to perform consistent work to the highest of standards.
  • Ability to transport items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to push and/or pull wheeled carts weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to work, stand and work in confined spaces for long periods of time.

Language Skills: Multilingual ability is not required, but a plus.

Mathematical Skills: Basic mathematical skills and considerable skills in the use of a calculator to prepare moderately complex mathematical calculations without error.

Computers & Equipment:  Must be able to operate office machines and point-of-sale system with a high degree of speed and accuracy.

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS OF POSITION, INCLUDING ENVIRONMENT

  • Inside with protection from weather but not necessarily changes in temperature. 
  • Ability to attend to outdoor seating area with various weather conditions.
  • This position is occasionally required to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less.
  • The position requires manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking and frequently pulling, pushing, and bending.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
  • Willingness to work a rotation seven-day work cycle with various shifts.
  • Maintain physical stamina and proper mental attitude while dealing effectively with guests, management, and team members.
  • Must have ability to perform multiple tasks at one time, must be able to follow verbal and written instruction, and be able to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be highly organized and able to pay attention to sound and sight details in crowded and noisy situations, particularly when handling multiple tasks.
  • OSHA laws require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing work duties that have the potential of risk to your health or safety.
  • Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur.
