About the Role
As a Biotech Patent Associate, you will transform complex scientific breakthroughs into robust intellectual property assets. You will work closely with visionary scientists and global legal teams to navigate the intricacies of patent prosecution, providing strategic counsel that protects the future of life sciences technology. Key Responsibilities
- Patent Prosecution: Prepare and prosecute high-value patent applications before the USPTO and coordinate international filings.
- Strategic Drafting: Draft technically precise patent specifications and responses to Office Actions for complex biotechnological inventions.
- Portfolio Management: Provide strategic advice on patentability, freedom-to-operate, and lifecycle management for life sciences portfolios.
- Scientific Analysis: Conduct deep-dive technical analyses of emerging technologies in areas such as molecular biology, genetics, and therapeutics.
- Client Advisory: Interface directly with R&D teams and in-house counsel to identify and protect patentable subject matter.
Requirements
- Experience: 1–5 years of dedicated patent prosecution experience within a biotechnology practice at a reputable law firm.
- Technical Credentials: An advanced degree in a life sciences technology area is required; a Ph.D. is strongly preferred.
- USPTO Admission: Active USPTO Registration Number is required. Applicants not yet registered must be prepared to sit for and pass the patent bar exam within 12 months of hire.
- Skills: Superior technical writing skills, a meticulous eye for detail, and the ability to articulate complex biological concepts to legal and commercial audiences.
- Academic Background: Outstanding academic record from a top-tier law school and undergraduate institution.
