You Will Be
- The Ambassador of Freshness: You are the face of our bakery department, ensuring every guest finds the highest quality treats, breads, and cakes for their families.
- The Visual Merchandiser: You take pride in the vibrant presentation of our bakery cases, mastering the art of "culling" and display to ensure a "Gold Standard" appearance.
- The Sanitation Guardian: You champion a "clean-as-you-go" environment, understanding that food safety and meticulous rotation are the foundations of a professional bakery.
What You Will Do (Entry Level 1 - Core Responsibilities)
- Execute Merchandising: Perform daily stocking of ambient and temperature-controlled bakery cases, ensuring all items are visually appealing and fully stocked.
- Strict Rotation & FIFO: Perform meticulous rotation of fresh-baked goods; cull products past their peak freshness to maintain the highest quality standards.
- Sanitation Excellence: Maintain a sterile environment by adhering to rigorous "clean-as-you-go" protocols for all bakery displays, shelving, and prep areas.
- Proactive Hospitality: Assist customers with product inquiries and specialized order intake; guide guests through the store with proactive helpfulness.
- Labeling Integrity: Ensure all products are accurately labeled with correct pricing and "best by" dates.
Advanced Responsibilities (Specialist Level 2 & Lead Level 3)
Internal promotions to these levels are based on operational need and labor budgeting. Candidates with prior comparable experience may be identified for these tracks.
- Specialist (Level 2):Logistics & Order Mastery. Manages the intake of bakery freight and verifies invoice accuracy. Acts as the technical point of contact for complex special orders and oversees specialized merchandising for seasonal displays.
- Lead (Level 3):Operational Bridge. A senior expert providing technical leadership to both Deli and Bakery teams. Ensures specialized orders are executed with zero-variance accuracy and serves as the primary assistant to the Shift Supervisors and the Service Deli and Bakery Manager.
Qualifications
- Experience: None required; we are a "Teaching Store" and will train the right attitude.
- Age Requirement: 18+ Years Old (Required for environmental safety in the bakery where hazardous equipment is used).
- Certifications: Ability to obtain a valid Alaska Food Workers Card within 30 days of employment.
Physical Requirements & Environment
- Dynamic Mobility: Ability to stand for a 4–8 hour shift, lift up to 30 lbs, and navigate between the sales floor and walk-in freezers.
- Heat & Noise Exposure: Ability to work safely near commercial bakery ovens and remain productive in a high-energy environment with industrial equipment noise.
- Manual Dexterity & Precision: Hand-eye coordination for precision tasks such as labeling, packaging delicate baked goods, and handling specialized guest orders.
- Sensory Awareness: Ability to visually distinguish quality markers (color/texture) and hear equipment safety alarms or overhead pages.
Pay Transparency
- Pay Range: $17.00 - 20.00 hourly. Starting rates vary by level, experience, and current operational needs.
- Overtime: This is an hourly position subject to Alaska's 8-hour daily overtime laws.
