The organization seeks a Backend Modernization Engineer to drive architecture and delivery of Java and Spring Boot microservices on AWS. The role will design domain-driven APIs and real-time data streams, shape implementation plans in agile ceremonies, and lead best practices across teams. The engineer will promote operational excellence through automation, testing, and secure development while partnering with operations to improve reliability and performance.

Rate: $90.00 to $98.00/hr. w2
Responsibilities:
- Engage in proactive problem solving to drive innovative solutions and refine project objectives.
- Apply critical thinking to analyze complex requirements and contribute to solution design and architecture.
- Collaborate on task and milestone definition to ensure proactive project advancement.
- Participate in agile ceremonies and provide feedback to progress delivery.
- Lead and model software development best practices and mentor peers.
- Maintain accountability for risk management and adherence to policies focused on positive customer experience.
- Design and implement technology and software solutions as part of an agile squad.
- Influence activities from architecture through delivery within agile practices.
- Lead communities of practice to document and refine development standards.
- Define Domain-Driven Design across enterprise domains.
- Deliver RESTful APIs and real-time data streams for each domain.
- Develop code and infrastructure as code in AWS using Terraform.
- Build microservices with Java and Spring Boot.
- Design and implement new features to improve product and application quality.
- Serve as a technical expert on an agile squad.
- Drive architecture across multiple services and applications.
- Develop software that meets code quality standards and metrics.
- Guide and mentor developers, enforce standards, and share knowledge.
- Achieve operational excellence through automation and maintainable, testable code.
- Partner with operations and engineering to drive service improvements.
- Remain current on relevant IT trends and practices.
- Assist with end-user and customer problem resolution.
- Create and update operational procedures for routine processes.
- Ensure compliance with audit requirements.
Experience Requirements:
- Application development experience.
- AWS experience.
- Docker experience.
- Java expertise.
- Spring Boot expertise.
- DynamoDB experience (preferred).
- HashiCorp Vault experience (preferred).
- JavaScript experience (preferred).
- Jenkins experience (preferred).
- Kafka experience (preferred).
- Node.js experience (preferred).
- Terraform experience (preferred).
- REST API development experience.
- Containerization familiarity.
- Software development best practices knowledge.
- Git and GitHub experience.
- Software development methodologies understanding.
- Security best practices in software development.
- Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Developing using OSX experience.
- Unit testing with JUnit proficiency.
- 12-factor applications experience (preferred).
- Microservices development using Node/ExpressJs (preferred).
- Elastic Container Service (ECS) knowledge (preferred).
- Greenfield application development experience (preferred).
- Configuring and tuning Tomcat Embedded (preferred).
- Jenkins CI/CD experience (preferred).
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- AWS certification (preferred).
