Description

The avionics system is the backbone of highly reusable, operable, and reliable space systems. As a manufacturing engineer at a young space company, you will be responsible for designing systems to deliver Stoke’s avionics components on time and meeting all requirements, including application-appropriate quality. In addition to designing and iterating on tooling and processes, you will be a prime point of contact between the Avionics organization rest of the production and test organizations. You will seek out state-of-the-art solutions to difficult problems and you will assist in the definition of company standards for avionics development and production. You must be ready to stay focused, move fast, self-direct, and learn on the fly. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the procurement, assembly, acceptance testing, and integration and testing of avionics flight components and harnessing
  • Author, execute, and maintain work instructions for complex assembles
  • Manage and maintain quality of vendor provided products and services
  • Design and adapt right-sized manufacturing processes appropriate to the hardware’s maturity by using a combination of high volume and development manufacturing processes and techniques
  • Execute production readiness reviews and own hardware configuration after production readiness review
  • Integrate with design teams driving design for manufacturability, test, and integration
  • Work with experts from other teams and departments to ensure that systems are fielded and/or commissioned on time while meeting all requirements; challenge assumptions and build strong professional relationships
  • Participate in engine and vehicle integrated test and launch operations
  • Track and investigate failures in production, test, and flight, identifying and mitigating the immediate and underlying root causes and implementing corrective actions reduce risk and improve reliability of designs and processes

 

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in engineering or equivalent on the job experience
  • 2+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, including SMT processing, electronics rework and repair, basic machining, coating, adhesive and potting applications, etc
  • Experience in designing tooling and fixturing
  • Experience in process development and research
  • Ability to implement harness and PCBA manufacturing tools and techniques in low volume production
  • Demonstrated understanding of configuration management and change control
  • Demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, and use data to drive systemic improvements
  • Experience with basic failure analysis tools and methods (X-ray, cross-section, polishing)
  • Familiarity with APQP and lean manufacturing processes (Green Belt or higher preferred)
  • Knowledge of IPC/NASA manufacturing standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Rigorous attention to detail
  • Willing to relocate to Seattle, WA

Compensation

Target Levels:

  • Level 2 Range: $104,500 - $141,400
  • Level 3 Range: $123,000 - $184,400
