Summary:
The Automation and Assay Research Scientist supports laboratory automation projects, assisting with integration of robotic systems and assay optimization for screening biological samples. Develops and optimizes automated assay platforms to support high-throughput screening for therapeutic and diagnostic research.
Responsibilities:Essential Job Functions:
- Implement and validate automated assay platforms.
- Program and maintain liquid handling instruments.
- Assist in transitioning manual protocols to high-throughput systems.
- Analyze data output and troubleshoot protocols.
- Contribute to process documentation and quality control.
- The contractor will be expected to execute their assigned tasks, and to share their findings with other members of the project team.
- The Contractor is expected to write reports and publications and present their findings in meetings.
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Familiarity with assay validation and QC metrics.
- Basic scripting or instrument control knowledge.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Shall be knowledgeable in a relevant field of the life sciences.
- The contractor shall have demonstrated their potential ability to independently plan, execute, analyze, and report on their research through their graduate dissertation.
- Possesses good written and oral communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biotechnology, engineering, or biological sciences.
- Minimum 2+ years in assay development or automation engineering.
- Experience with robotics and automated platforms (e.g., Tecan, Hamilton).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility, with no access to classified information, is required.
- Enroll in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ACTIVE SECRET is preferred
Pay and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $86,000 to $112,000 annually.
