A/V TECHNICIAN – Design & Integration
Do you want to be part of a hands-on team? Audiovisual (AV) technicians in the Design & Integration department install sound and display equipment used for classrooms, offices, conference rooms, huddle spaces, etc. Cool-headed, self-motivated individuals who think fast on their feet and enjoy technical support will thrive in this role. AV design and integration technicians at Visual Technologies typically work Monday through Friday or as designated by the client’s schedule.
Are you motivated to learn a trade? Visual Technologies is willing to train those with a can-do attitude and a background in similar careers, such as low voltage wiring, programming, and construction.
Do you enjoy making things work? The Integration Technician performs installation tasks for audio-visual projects including but not limited to pulling cable, installing control systems, mounting projectors, screens, monitors, speakers, etc., and maintaining structural soundness. An understanding of IPs and networking and computer systems is a plus.
The ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and architectural blueprints, use hand and power tools, solder and crimp connectors, along with various other AV systems related tasks is part of the position. Assisting with basic mechanical fabrication and rack wiring, testing point to point functionality of systems, and performing field installation of control programs/systems. Good communications skills are a must, verbal and written.
Are you a people-person? While performing on-site work, AV technicians must provide outstanding customer service and develop working relationships with their clients. Great technicians mentor newer peers to provide a high level of customer service. They use strong communication as a tool to keep project progress moving forward and put end user’s minds at ease. Design & Integration Technicians perform client training as needed.
Are you a Techie? A key duty of AV technicians is to execute flawless integration of equipment. The most successful technician’s problem-solve and handle equipment malfunctions well, even under pressure. They focus on making sure their systems are working properly. Their job requires constant hands-on tinkering with technology to stay on top of the newest technologies.
Do you have what it takes? AV technicians are enthusiastic individuals who can follow instructions and work well with a team while installing video and audio systems. Some helpful skills for this position include:
· *Computer skills – working with various computer technology is a necessity for audio-visual professionals.
· *Construction Skills - ability to use hand and power tools in a safe and efficient manner.
· *Troubleshooting – AV technicians troubleshoot all equipment issues in a timely manner.
· *Physical fitness – it is common for technicians to lift 50 to 80 pounds individually. Standing, walking, climbing ladders, and navigating tight spaces is a common requirement for AV technicians.
· *Organization skills – being organized is a requirement for AV technicians due to the tools, wiring, cables, and parts that they must methodically sort and install. Clear communication with the management and accounting departments is a necessity. This includes email, phone calls, order taking, paperwork, etc.
· *High school diploma or GED is required. An associate degree in audio-visual technology or a related field is beneficial.
· *Necessary requirements are to have a valid NYS driver’s license and ability to pass a drug/alcohol screening at any given time.
