Our client, a growing Houston area law firm, seeks a motivated Associate Attorney to join their litigation team and assist with research, writing and depositions. The ideal candidate will have experience handling complex civil litigation matters and an interest in supporting a diverse practice that includes oil and gas, maritime, and general trial litigation. This position offers the opportunity to take on substantive responsibility in all phases of litigation, including case strategy, motion practice, discovery, and trial preparation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active bar license and in good standing with the Texas State Bar
- Minimum of three (3) to six (6) years of defense litigation experience
- Experience in one or more of the following practice areas required: oil and gas litigation, maritime or admiralty law, commercial or general civil litigation
- Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills
- Experience drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery requests and responses
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Experience with federal and state court procedures
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Managing assigned caseload through all phases of litigation
- Drafting pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery requests and responses, and legal memoranda
- Conducting legal research and preparing case strategy recommendations
- Taking and defending depositions
- Assisting with and participating in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
- Preparing witnesses and trial exhibits
- Communicating with clients, experts, opposing counsel, and court personnel
- Ensuring compliance with court rules, scheduling orders, and deadlines
- Supporting senior attorneys and partners in complex litigation matters
