Veterinarian Associate – Canton Animal Hospital (Canton, NC) 30 Years and Counting | 2 to 4 Day Work Week | No Nights or Weekends Canton Animal Hospital, located in beautiful Canton, NC —just 15 miles west of Asheville—is a thriving, privately owned practice with over 30 years of trusted service in the community. Nestled in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, with the Pigeon River winding through this historic mill town, our location offers an ideal lifestyle for anyone who enjoys hiking, kayaking, or just soaking in the mountain views. Our free-standing 3,000+ sq. ft. facility features spacious exam rooms, modern diagnostic and surgical equipment, and a skilled, experienced support team —all contributing to our continued growth and financial success. Simply put: we’re a busy, efficient clinic that does well—and we’re still growing! Position Details: Part time to Full Time, 2 - 4 days a week Hours: 8:20 AM – 5:30 PM with a 1 hour, 15-minute lunch break Clinic Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM No nights, weekends, boarding, or grooming No hospitalized cases or overnight care What You'll Do: Conduct thorough physical examinations to assess patient health and diagnose medical conditions Administer vaccinations, medications, and treatments as appropriate Perform routine soft tissue surgeries—including spays, neuters, dentals, and minor surgical procedures —with precision and care Provide emergency care and critical interventions for ill or injured pets (critical patients are referred to local emergency clinics) Utilize accurate veterinary terminology when communicating with staff and pet owners Maintain detailed and up-to-date medical records and treatment documentation Educate pet owners on proper nutrition, preventive care, and general animal wellness Collaborate closely with veterinary technicians and support staff to ensure smooth and efficient clinic operations Stay informed on the latest developments in veterinary medicine and pursue continuing education opportunities Skills We Value: Proficiency in safe and effective animal restraint techniques Strong foundation in veterinary science, including anatomy and physiology Familiarity with animal husbandry practices and preventive health care Solid understanding of aseptic surgical techniques Experience with basic in-house lab work and diagnostics Excellent communication skills to clearly and compassionately guide pet owners What We’re Looking For: A licensed DVM (or eligible for NC licensure) Proficient in dentals and basic surgical procedures Comfortable in a fast-paced, collaborative setting A great communicator who enjoys connecting with clients and coworkers Why You'll Love Working Here: No weekends or late nights – enjoy your time off in the mountains Privately owned with a focus on quality over quantity Practice has good working relationships with mobile specialists for care of advanced surgical or internal medicine cases Loyal, established client base and a community that values veterinary care Supportive, low-drama team culture Easy access to Asheville’s food, art, and music scene!
