Associate, General Counsel (Energy Infrastructure)
Location: Hybrid – Salt Lake City, UT or Portland, OR
A leading energy infrastructure developer is seeking an Associate, General Counsel to support legal operations across a growing portfolio of large-scale power, energy, and infrastructure assets in the United States.
This role will work closely with finance, asset management, operations, and executive teams to provide legal support across operational, financing, and governance matters. The position focuses on the ongoing legal needs that arise after projects reach financing and operational stages, including post-closing compliance, construction financing draws, entity management, insurance and warranty claims, and regulatory oversight.
The ideal candidate will bring experience supporting energy or infrastructure assets in an in-house environment and will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing the structured operational side of corporate legal work.
Responsibilities
• Serve as legal counsel to operations and asset management teams supporting an operating portfolio of energy and infrastructure assets
• Manage legal matters related to operational disputes, insurance claims, warranty issues, and contract amendments
• Monitor and manage post-closing obligations under project financing agreements and corporate financing structures
• Support capital markets and treasury teams on construction draws, tax equity fundings, and related financing activities
• Coordinate legal aspects of portfolio and corporate financing transactions
• Oversee entity management including creation, maintenance, and governance documentation for project and corporate entities
• Support regulatory compliance requirements related to the operation of energy infrastructure assets
• Implement and manage legal department processes including contract management systems, compliance tracking, and internal legal policies
• Supervise and coordinate work with legal support staff and outside counsel when required
Qualifications
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership
• 7–10+ years of legal experience supporting energy, infrastructure, or project finance transactions
• Experience supporting operating energy or infrastructure assets preferred
• Experience with project finance or corporate finance structures in the energy sector
• Prior in-house legal experience strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of corporate governance, entity management, and regulatory compliance
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple legal workstreams simultaneously
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with finance, operations, and executive teams
