OverviewA growing financial technology firm operating within regulated markets, is seeking an Associate General Counsel to support legal and regulatory operations. This role will partner closely with the General Counsel and senior leadership to provide legal guidance across regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and strategic business initiatives.
The position requires deep knowledge of financial regulatory frameworks and the ability to translate complex legal requirements into actionable guidance for business and technology teams.
Responsibilities Regulatory & ComplianceManage regulatory communications and filings with U.S. financial regulatory agencies.
Ensure organizational compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks governing exchange and clearing operations.
Oversee rule submissions and regulatory change management processes.
Analyze regulatory developments and provide impact assessments and implementation guidance.
Support corporate governance activities including board and committee documentation, resolutions, and policy maintenance.
Provide legal guidance on product development, technology initiatives, vendor agreements, and strategic transactions.
Manage litigation exposure and coordinate with external counsel where necessary.
Partner with compliance leadership to strengthen regulatory compliance programs.
Education
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Active bar membership in good standing (Illinois or New York preferred)
Experience
5+ years of legal experience, ideally including a mix of law firm, in-house, or regulatory agency experience
Strong familiarity with derivatives, exchange, or clearing regulatory environments
Experience drafting regulatory filings and managing rule submissions
Skills
Strong knowledge of U.S. financial regulatory frameworks
Experience negotiating commercial and technology-related agreements
Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
Ability to manage multiple complex priorities independently
