Position Overview:

As a Associate Director Curriculum and Instruction at Galen College of Nursing, you will support quality student learning by assisting the Director of Curriculum and Faculty Development and College faculty to develop, implement, and advance nursing program curricula. Focus is on content creation, course management, the Galen Exam & Analysis Review (GEAR) initiative, improving student learning, facilitating students’ achievement of program learning outcomes, and ensuring NCLEX success. The Associate Director provides leadership and guidance to the campus Curriculum Committee and College-wide course meetings, including GEAR. Additionally, the Associate Director ensures that a comprehensive curriculum development, review, revision, evaluation, and reporting process is effectively documented, implemented, and meets the requirements of all regulatory and accrediting bodies such as state boards of nursing, SACSCOC, CCNE, and ACEN.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads faculty in the development of nursing courses that reflect evidence-based teaching and active learning strategies.
  •  Actively works with faculty to ensure the effective implementation of course content. 
  • Facilitates the faculty in course/curriculum revision based on course-level data, NCLEX® performance data, learner needs, and health care trends. 
  • Works collaboratively with the Test Development Specialists to facilitate faculty in the development and administration of content-valid classroom examinations that are linked to course student learning outcomes and the NCLEX® Detailed Test Plan. 
  • Guides the faculty in their use of course assessment and evaluation data to improve the teaching-learning process. 
  • Works collaboratively with the Director of Institutional Effectiveness (IE) to assist faculty to develop and use multiple methods of assessment to evaluate achievement of student learning and program outcomes. In conjunction with the Director of IE, facilitates the deans, program directors, and faculty in their efforts to analyze and use course and program-level assessment data to support curricular decision-making, planning, and revisions. 
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a formal faculty teaching effectiveness evaluation system based on 1) first time NCLEX® pass rates; 2) level of achievement of program student learning outcomes and general education competencies; 3) student progression and retention. 
  • Verifies that on-ground and hybrid courses are created and implemented based on best practices and Galen’s policies, procedures. 
  • Ensures accuracy and effectiveness of course syllabi content. 
  • Ensures the development and implementation of the standardized curriculum across the college. Leads faculty in the development and implementation of standardized teaching/lesson plans. 
  • Presents at campus and college-wide faculty development meetings and extended sessions. 
  • Presents at local, regional, and national conferences to demonstrate excellence in nursing education as a representative of the College. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

Education: Minimum of an earned master’s degree is required with a focus in nursing education. (doctoral degree preferred). A doctoral degree in education or nursing education with a focus on curriculum and instructional design is strongly preferred.

 Experience: Minimum of four years of effective, full-time teaching experience; at least two years of documented experience related to curriculum development. 

Other: Must possess teaching experience, excellent communication skills (writing and speaking), strong problem solving and organizational skills, and experience facilitating faculty who are working as part of a team. Must possess technology skills, the ability to communicate using technology, and the ability to work with learning management systems. 

Special Qualifications: Proven experience in curriculum development, instructional design, along with a working knowledge of regional and programmatic accreditation. Must possess strong leadership skills in order to facilitate groups in curriculum development, review, and evaluation of curriculum and education delivery. 

Physical/Mental Demands and Work Environment: Position requires mental activity, reading, planning, preparing, evaluating, and decision making. Physical demands in classroom and office are minimal and considered sedentary work with occasional lifting and/or carrying such articles as records, files, and books (10 pounds maximum). Operation of standard office equipment such as phone, computer, classroom projector, Scantron, and printer/scanner, occurs on a frequent basis. Physical demands in the clinical area may include lifting, pulling, pushing, kneeling, stooping, crouching and bending or any other related activity. Travel may be required. Degree of Supervision: Minimal
