The Associate Chief Medical Informatics Officer (ACMIO) for Digital and Data Innovation supports the adoption, optimization, and effective use of digital health, data, and AI solutions across ambulatory and acute care settings while maintaining part-time active clinical responsibilities.
This role serves as a clinical ambassador for innovation, advancing the use of digital tools and data-driven decision-making to transform patient care.
Job Summary
Reports primarily to the Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO), with dotted-line reporting to senior digital/data leadership and a clinical department chair.
Works an average of four days per week (32 hours) on Information Services activities, with one day per week (8 hours) dedicated to clinical practice or academic responsibilities.
Hybrid position, including in-person work with potential remote days as assigned.
Provides clinical informatics services across assigned facilities, with a primary focus on digital and data innovation.
Upholds high ethical standards, meets commitments, and collaborates effectively while representing the needs of clinicians, patients, and the organization.
Promotes systems thinking and responds respectfully to requests, inquiries, and concerns.
Leverages clinical data, analytics, and strong presentation skills to promote teamwork and cross-functional collaboration.
Participates in and leads advisory councils and working groups, building trusted relationships with physicians, nurses, clinicians, and business leaders.
Leads and coordinates clinical transformation through advanced use of information systems, digital platforms, and emerging technologies.
Provides clinical leadership to improve provider engagement with clinical information systems.
Partners with IT training teams to support clinician education, appropriate technology use, and peer-to-peer support.
Supports IT leadership in relationships with hospital leadership, academic leadership, and community practice partners.
Minimum Experience and Knowledge
Minimum 4 years of experience as a physician leader, with progressively increasing leadership responsibilities.
Active clinical practice within the past 12 months preferred.
Experience working in innovation-focused environments utilizing digital, data, and AI solutions.
Demonstrated experience in medical informatics, clinical systems implementation, workflow redesign, and change management.
Familiarity with health IT platforms, digital health trends, and emerging technologies.
Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and optimizing health information technology systems.
Experience in quality improvement, performance improvement, and outcomes management.
Experience leading organizational change, preferably involving implementation or optimization of an electronic medical record across multiple facilities.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage physicians, trainees, nurses, pharmacists, administrators, IT staff, and other stakeholders.
Ability to clearly articulate the benefits and limitations of technical solutions to both clinical and non-clinical audiences.
Cerner / Oracle Health experience preferred.
Holds an MD or DO degree.
Required Licensure and Certification
Licensed to practice medicine in California, or ability to obtain licensure within 180 days of hire.
Board certified in an ACGME-recognized specialty.
Fire and Life Safety certification required; must be obtained within 30 days of hire if not already held and maintained thereafter.
Board certification in Clinical Informatics and/or a related advanced degree (MBA, MPH, MHA, MMM, or Informatics) preferred.
