The University of St. Thomas is hiring three Assistant Women’s Basketball Coaches, each with a unique area of emphasis within our Division I Women’s Basketball program. All positions report to the Head Women’s Basketball Coach and contribute to building a competitive, holistic, student‑centered program.

Salary Range: $55,000 to $95,000
The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of operating a competitive Division I program. One of the three following Key Responsibilities would be required for each of the three assistant coaches: 1.) Recruiting prospective student-athletes, 2.) Scheduling games or 3.) Video/AI coordination.
Other duties would be divided among the three assistant coaches: all facets of recruiting, daily practice preparation, scouting opponents and game preparation, contributing to player development on and off the court, liaison to academics and campus community, community service/outreach, program administration, coordinating recruiting visits, liaison to marketing/social media content, oversight of summer camps & clinics, donor, alumni and community engagement, and contributing to fundraising efforts. This role plays a critical part in advancing the program’s competitive success and fostering a positive student-athlete experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assistant Coach #1
- Serve as primary coach in the absence of the Head Coach
- Lead recruiting and scouting activities.
- Assist with player development & mentorship.
- Lead program social media strategy in collaboration with external affairs.
- Assist with donors, alumni, and community engagement.
- Assist with fundraising activities and communications.
- Contribute to scouting, practice planning, and game preparation
Assistant Coach #2
- Coordinate scheduling: initiating opponent contact, securing dates, and overseeing contract execution.
- Coordinate and monitor student athlete academic progress in collaboration with Athletic Academic Services
- Manage and track recruiting logs, compliance documentation, and contact schedules and serve as the liaison to the Compliance Office.
- Lead coordination of unofficial/official campus visits and all recruiting related travel.
- Oversee social media content and program branding in partnership with Marketing & Communications.
- Support alumni outreach and engagement strategies.
- Contribute to scouting, practice planning, and game preparation
Assistant Coach #3
- Serve as the primary assistant coach for video, technology and AI coordination.
- Lead the player development scope & sequence, and individual skill training plans.
- Codirect summer camps: brochures, scheduling, staffing, and operations.
- Assist with equipment ordering in partnership with Head Coach and Equipment Manager.
- Support the Athletics Business Office and administrative tasks.
- Coordinate student manager program and male practice players.
- Contribute to scouting, practice planning, and game preparation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Five years of relevant sports experience either playing and/or coaching and recruiting at the collegiate level
- The ability to mentor student athletes to foster athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth
- The ability to travel and work evenings and weekends
- A DMV background check is required for this role
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master’s degree
- Knowledge of NCAA and conference compliance rules and regulations
- The use of technology and software related to the work to include SportsCode, Synergy, Synergy Editor, HUDL, Microsoft Office Suite, and social media platforms
An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.
Physical Requirements
The ability to work in and move about an office setting and an athletic facility. The ability to perform the duties of an assistant basketball coach in a fast-paced and high energetic environment. The ability to lift equipment weighing up to fifty pounds. The ability to read printed materials and a computer screen. The ability to communicate in person, by email, via video, and over the telephone.
