Job Overview:
We are seeking an Assistant Teacher for tuition based and after school programs to join our team here at NMS. We follow the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori with an emphasis on providing an environment that empowers each child to develop self-awareness, independence, sense of community, and love of learning. Our school follows the academic calendar for Needham Public Schools. Must have a firm commitment to uphold the school's mission.
Responsibilities:
Work closely under the direction of the Lead Teacher.
Responsible for caring for the physical and emotional well-being of the children.
Prepare materials and maintain their cleanliness and good condition.
Demonstrate the ability to relate joyfully to children.
Be responsible for the safety and physical well-being of all students in your charge at all times.
Demonstrate appropriate and professional behaviors at all times when in the school building, during classroom outdoor times, and whenever you are in the surrounding school neighborhood. Be proactive when others are not demonstrating appropriate behavior.
Address all school (parent, child, team) issues immediately.
Organize work so that daily time is available for recordkeeping, meetings with team members, and with School Directors and parents as deemed reasonably necessary by School.
Maintain ongoing communication with team members.
Inform the Lead Teacher of any information given to you by a parent.
Review weekly lesson plans with the Lead Teacher and assist with the written summary of the week.
Any additional duties as determined by the Directors of the School.
Maintaining a clean and hygienic classroom environment
Checking and replacing consumable classroom items at the beginning and end of every day
Managing the room during class time such that the teacher can spend a reasonable amount of time giving individual lessons. (Individual teachers will have their own systems and preferences)
Helping in the hallways during transition times.
Helping children get dressed for outside and inside play.
Monitoring the playground during outside play.
Monitoring lunches (specifics are included in the best practice manual).
Monitoring naps.
Knowing the school procedure and helping implement it when appropriate.
Attending monthly staff meetings.
Maintaining confidentiality. Do not discuss children or their families outside of staff meetings or private meetings with your supervising teacher.
Qualifications:
-Applicant is EEC Certified (Required)
-Willing to do training to become Montessori Certified.
-Teaching Experiences (Minimum 1 year required)
