Lawrence University of Wisconsin, a liberal arts college and conservatory located in Appleton, Wisconsin, invites applications for a tenure track appointment as Assistant Professor of Spanish with a specialization in Hispanic linguistics. The candidate will teach and develop courses such as sociolinguistics, pragmatics, Spanish phonetics and phonology, or bilingualism. In addition to their courses on Hispanic linguistics, they will teach in both our second language/L2 and heritage language programs. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English is required. Ph.D. in Spanish, Linguistics, Hispanic Linguistics or closely related field is required by the time of the appointment; ABD is acceptable for selection.
The standard teaching load is six courses per year, usually three in Spanish language and three in Hispanic linguistics, with other regular duties that include leading tutorials, supervising independent study projects; grading, advising, and mentoring students; assisting in curricular planning for courses that complement the university’s offerings; teaching First Year Studies on a rotating basis (approximately once every five years); serving on university committees and engaging in related departmental and institutional service. Candidates are expected to maintain and strengthen our heritage language program employing current teaching methods and innovative educational technology.
