Job Description

The Department of Music in the Shaheen College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Indianapolis seeks a dynamic conductor/educator for its Director of Choral Activities, a full-time, tenure-track faculty position to begin August 2026. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of performance, scholarship, and teaching. Responsibilities include oversight of the choral program, artistic leadership of choral ensembles, teaching and advising choral conducting majors, experience in and energetic commitment to recruitment, and developing strong, positive student relationships. Expertise in secondary education, desirable. The Director of Choral Activities works with UIndy faculty on collaborative projects with instrumental ensembles and is expected to maintain an active presence in local and national professional organizations.

The candidate fulfilling this position at the University of Indianapolis will
responsible to:
Conduct University of Indianapolis Choral Ensembles: Concert Choir, Schola Chamber Choir; possibly Treble Choir and/or Crimson Express Jazz Choir.
Teach courses in Conducting (Basic, Advanced I, and Advanced II)
Manage choral budget, library, and inventory
Participate in vocal juries
Maintain local, state, and national visibility through guest conducting, clinics, and workshops/presentations
Actively participate in Music Department Outreach, Recruitment, and Auditions
    Actively recruit new students
    Serve on Admission Audition Panel
    Collaborate with the Director of Vocal Activities on suggested scholarships for incoming vocal students
    Audition/Award Choral Ensemble Grants to non-music major choral students, when appropriate

Other duties applicable to applicant’s experience, as assigned


REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctorate (DMA or PhD) or equivalent professional experience in Choral Conducting preferred. ABDs may also apply.
Three to five years of successful collegiate teaching experience preferred.
Record/potential for college teaching and scholarly/creative activities.
Expertise in advanced choral literature and pedagogy.

Potential to develop successful collaborations with other academic units, community partners, and professional organizations.
History of successful student recruitment/retention
Preferred Qualifications:
An established record of teaching, scholarly and/or creative achievement at the post- secondary level, and professional service is preferred.
