Description

  • Provide strategic, business‑oriented legal advice on global privacy, data protection, and AI.
  • Develop and evolve the global privacy strategy, governance framework, and readiness for emerging laws and regulations.
  • Monitor and interpret new privacy, cybersecurity, and AI regulatory developments and assess business impact.
  • Advise product, engineering, and business teams on privacy, AI, and data‑use implications for new and existing products.
  • Assess and mitigate risks in complex data processing activities and third‑party integrations.
  • Support cyber and data incident response, including investigations and breach notification analysis.
  • Lead or support global privacy program initiatives, including policies, procedures, templates, standards, and playbooks.
  • Draft, review, and maintain internal privacy policies, external notices, consent language, and disclosures.
  • Ensure global alignment with legal requirements and industry best practices.
  • Draft, negotiate, and advise on privacy and data security terms in commercial agreements (DPAs, data sharing, addenda, etc.).
  • Maintain scalable contracting standards and templates.
  • Support data‑related transactions and partnerships with practical, operational legal guidance.
  • Engage with regulators on product launches, inquiries, audits, and investigations.
  • Manage outside counsel and synthesize cross‑jurisdictional advice.
  • Collaborate with public policy teams on legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Participate in industry groups to stay ahead of trends and best practices.
  • Support privacy training and communications; promote a culture of privacy accountability organization‑wide.

Profile

A successful Assistant General Counsel should have:

  • A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience (i.e., with a primary focus on privacy and data protection) gained at law firm and in-house (at a publicly traded company).
  • Active U.S. State Bar membership in good standing.
  • Deep expertise in global privacy and data protection laws and frameworks, including GDPR/UK GDPR, U.S. state privacy laws (e.g., CCPA/CPRA), and other international regimes.
  • Extensive experience leading or advising global privacy programs and managing complex, cross-border privacy and data issues.
  • Demonstrated experience advising on AI governance and emerging AI regulations, or strong interest and ability to rapidly develop expertise in this area.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Partner with internal business teams and provide solutions-oriented legal advice in a clear and practical manner.
  • Team player willing to roll up sleeves.
