The Mundelein Park & Recreation District is excited to announce the newly created position of Aquatics & Fitness Manager, a key leadership role responsible for overseeing our aquatics and fitness staff and programs including direct supervision of all operations for our renowned outdoor water park, Barefoot Bay Family Aquatic Center. Summary

The Aquatics & Fitness Manager is responsible for the daily management of the outdoor aquatic facilities. This position also assists with the management of the indoor aquatic facility and associated programs, as well as providing secondary support for all fitness programs and services through supervision of the Aquatics & Fitness Supervisor. This position will be responsible for enforcing the policies and procedures pertinent to members of Barefoot Bay and the Spray Park. This position is responsible for the planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and supervising of all outdoor aquatic staff, programs, and aquatic special events. Ensure all areas of the outdoor aquatic facilities are in a safe and customer friendly manner, ensuring that the facilities are clean and adhere to the standards set forth by the Illinois Department of Public Health. This position serves as the backup to the Safety Coordinator for all agency facilities, programs, and events when the Safety Coordinator is not available. Manager must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to successfully carry out the essential functions of this job. Directly supervises the Aquatics & Fitness Supervisor, Outdoor Swim Instructors, and Seasonal Outdoor Aquatic Staff.

Qualifications - Education, Experience and Training

B.A. or B.S. in Recreation Administration, physical education, exercise science, or related field is preferred. Minimum of one year of experience in the field is required. Minimum of three years of experience in the field is preferred. Certification in StarGuard Elite Lifeguarding and Instructor Trainer is required within six months of employment. CPO/AFO certification is preferred. Fitness certifications (NASM, AFAA, ACSM, or related certification) preferred. Must possess Illinois Food Handler Certification within first 60 days of employment. Candidate must also possess a valid Illinois class "D" driver's license. CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification required, and if not certified, must become certified within 90 days of employment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Promote, schedule, manage, and supervise the District's outdoor pool facilities, including aquatic programs, parties, and facility rentals.
  • Supervise the work of the Aquatics & Fitness Supervisor and act as a coach and mentor to all district staff within areas of oversight.
  • Provide secondary coverage of Aquatic & Fitness Supervisor responsibilities related to fitness and aquatic programming, including but not limited to learn-to-swim, group exercise, personal training, indoor pool rentals, and facility supervision.
  • Maintain needed certifications for job requirements.
  • Maintain aquatic lifeguarding staff in test-ready shape regarding lifesaving skills and emergency procedures.
  • Provide customer service excellence, leadership, and in-service training for outdoor aquatic staff and all Barefoot Bay support staff.
  • Keep accurate and complete records in compliance with accepted industry standards and requirements for an aquatic facility.
  • Partner with park & facility maintenance staff to ensure the proper maintenance, operation, and repair of the outdoor aquatic facilities and amenities.
  • Order supplies and chemicals when directed. Maintain inventory according to manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Support the creation of a yearly calendar of programs and events to support aquatics & fitness operations and stimulate district growth.
  • Make recommendations to the Superintendent of Recreation Facilities regarding aquatic and fitness equipment, facility, rules, procedures, and supplies.
  • Monitor aquatic operations daily and respond to any problems that may arise.
  • Define personnel and staffing requirements, develop a plan to recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate seasonal and part-time staff.
  • Serve as backup to Safety Coordinator, as needed, to continually promote best practices at all Mundelein Park & Recreation District ("MPRD") facilities, programs, and events.
  • Serve as the Vice-Safety Chairperson for the MPRD Safety Committee.
  • Assist the Safety Coordinator as needed with management and review of the MPRD's safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Safety Coordinator in creating, scheduling, and conducting relevant training courses for all employees as needed.
  • Oversee and manage the District's CPR/AED training program and conduct classes as needed in accordance with the program.
  • Prepare seasonal brochure information and create publicity materials in cooperation with the marketing department.
  • Work with marketing staff on the creation of annual marketing plans for areas of responsibility. Ensure the timely marketing of programs and events from a strategic perspective, including production of flyers, brochures, press releases, social media posts, and other promotional materials.
  • Prepare the annual budget for the operation of Barefoot Bay and program areas, monitor revenue and expenses, make purchases, and recommend rate and policy changes to the Superintendent of Recreation Facilities.
  • Develop long range recommendations for capital expenses.
  • Order, purchase, and coordinate assigned program supplies and equipment.
  • Prepare monthly board report.
  • Seek ways to improve and deliver quality services to both external and internal customers continuously.
  • Make recommendations for changes and improvements to programs and facilities as required to meet the public demand.
  • Deliver quality customer service both internally and externally.
  • Attend to questions, suggestions, and/or complaints received from the public and staff quickly and diplomatically.
  • Provide accurate information to patrons in person, via telephone, and electronically, and be available to troubleshoot any issues, as needed.
  • Adapt recreation programs to meet the needs of individuals in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Monitor records of monies received, participation figures, and expenditures within assigned responsibility areas.
  • Participate in professional committees, conferences, workshops, and classes to improve job knowledge and management skills.
  • Work with community organizations, businesses, and other governmental bodies to promote, implement, and improve programs and services.
  • Develop, schedule, and implement an annual calendar of in-service trainings. Ensure staff attendance. Produce and update training manuals for staff.
  • Train and practice the medical emergency, evacuation, and disaster plan with staff and be prepared for any and all emergencies.
  • Ensure staff schedules are prepared for areas of responsibility.
  • Manage ,directly supervise and approve all timesheet activities for the assigned areas.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
