Apprentice Designer/Stitcher (Summer)

Position Overview

Join us in the summer of 2026 and help us continue the legacy of fostering creativity, nurturing talent, and celebrating the individual artistic journey at Interlochen. We are seeking imaginative and adaptive Apprentice Designers who embody our core values and are committed to nurturing young artists. As an Apprentice Designer, you will be directly involved in the construction and coordination of necessary costumes for the Intermediate Division theatrical productions, while fully immersing yourself in the unique environment that only a summer camp can offer.

What You Get To Do

• May help with alterations, as needed, on the Interlochen Shakespeare Festival production
• Design the costumes for Intermediate Musical and Repertory productions
• Assist in the construction and coordination of all necessary costumes for Intermediate theatrical performances.
• Work with the director of the Intermediate productions to coordinate any costume needs
• Complete renderings and/or costume collages for director approval.
• Work with Costume Shop Supervisor to maintain Intermediate productions' costume budgets and purchase items as needed.
• Responsible for pulling, sourcing and making costume pieces as needed for Intermediate productions.
• Complete all fittings and generate fitting notes.
• Work with Costume Shop staff on completing notes.
• Work as main wardrobe contact during performances: including show repairs and laundry as needed.
• Help train Intermediate campers to run wardrobe on the Intermediate Musical and Repertory productions
• Work with other costume staff to strike and clean costumes after shows have closed.

• Prepared to live in a residence hall with a roommate.While we offer accessible housing accommodations, please note that due to the rustic nature of our camp, these options are limited.
• Costume design experience required
• Excellent sewing, patterning and drawing skills
• Must have excellent time management skills

What to Expect about Camp Life

• Rustic Living: Youll be living in a dorm or nature cabin setting, surrounded by the beauty of northern Michigan. Wi-Fi and air conditioning are not provided in the nature cabins, encouraging a true disconnect from the digital world and a deeper connection with nature and those around you.
• Embrace the Outdoors: The camp is nestled in a wilderness area, so expect to encounter wildlife and insects as part of the experience. Embracing the natural environment is key to enjoying your time here.
• Outdoor Work Environment: Many of your duties will involve working outdoors, often for extended periods, so being comfortable in various weather conditions is important.
• Community and Camaraderie: Youll be part of a tight-knit community where collaboration, creativity, and support are at the forefront. The connections you make here will be lifelong.
