Job Summary and Qualifications
Position Summary: The Anesthesia Technician demonstrates technical skills to assist the anesthesia provider (anesthesiologist) with equipment, and supplies utilized in the course of the anesthesia providers practice. Participates in the care and cleaning of OR equipment, anesthesia equipment and OR suites. Performs in a sterile environment. The Anesthesia Technicians may come in contact with medications and therefore must demonstrate understanding of proper medication management and storage as well as maintaining a secure medication environment. Call is required and based on departmental needs. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Complies with hospital/departmental policies and procedures, i.e., attendance, mandatory education, safety, infection control, etc.
Determines priority in equipment needs and ensures availability.
Respects patient’s rights by maintaining patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
Demonstrates ICARE standards at all times.
Can recognize and respond appropriately in an emergency situation.
Attendsunitspecific education sessions.
Attends 80% of all mandatory meetings and in-services.
Reading and reviewing emails and other department communication.
Prepares foreach procedure and/or surgery by ensuring there is adequate stock, and appropriate equipment available in areas as assigned.
Organizes work and utilizes time efficiently.
Must have good telephone skills and organizational skills.
Works toward demonstrating knowledge of the step-by-step process of specific surgical procedures as they relate to anesthesia.
Maintains a safe environment for the surgical patients by checking the conditions and operation of anesthesia equipment before surgeries start for the day and at the end of the day.
Demonstrates working knowledge of the specific uses of all equipment and supplies used for all casesrelatedto anesthesia.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating manuals, and maintenance manuals.
Performs intra-operative management of assigned procedures under the guidance of the anesthesiologist.
Anticipatesneedsof the OR and Anesthesia staff.
Assistswith arterial lines, central lines,blocks, and intubations asrequired.
Demonstrates knowledge of and correctprocedurein managing patients with system specific procedures.
Assumes responsibility for supply and equipment management appropriate to position and in compliance to department standard.
Assists in maintenance of instruments and equipment by proper utilization, cleaning, care, and sterilization.
Removes and reports all damaged or unsafe equipment
Assistswith post procedure workload cleaning room between procedures, putting away all unused supplies and setting up for the next procedure.
Assistsin OR turnovers after case is complete.
Demonstrates knowledge of anesthesia equipment
Position Requirements
Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current Certification of Anesthesia Technician preferred. Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Education: Highschool or GED. Graduation from an accredited program for anesthesia technicians preferred.
Experience: Experience as an Anesthesia Tech preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Demonstrates good organizational skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers .Is authorized to handle medications on the sterile field including syringes, needles, etc. and is accountable to the registered nurse for oversight of this practice. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and Rose Medical Center.
