STS Technical Services is hiring experienced Aircraft Welders in Nashville, Tennessee. This is a high-skill role focused on welding aircraft structural components using exotic metals while supporting tooling, fixture fabrication, and ground support equipment repairs.

Position Summary

The Aircraft Welder performs complex welding tasks on aircraft structural components, fabricates aircraft shoring fixtures, and designs or repairs facility equipment and tooling. This position requires advanced welding capability, aviation regulatory knowledge, and the ability to work across multiple welding processes and positions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Use hand-welding and flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components and fill holes, indentations, or seams
  • Perform aircraft structural welding on exotic metals
  • Design and build aircraft shoring fixtures and tooling
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions
  • Clamp, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt component parts to required configurations
  • Detect faulty equipment operation or defective materials and notify supervisors
  • Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment including:
    • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
    • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
    • Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
    • Plasma Arc Welding
    • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
    • Resistance Welding
    • Submerged Arc Welding
  • Maintain equipment under EAMS tooling and PM programs
  • Order metals, materials, and welding consumables
  • Follow FAA-approved repair and modification procedures
  • Consult OEM technical data and approved internal procedures
  • Inspect completed welds and repairs to ensure standards and tolerances are met
  • Complete and sign off work package documentation
  • Submit work to Quality Assurance for inspection and airworthiness recertification
  • Comply with Repair Station Manual (RSM), Quality Control Manual (QCM), and company SOPs
  • Design and repair GSE equipment and aircraft tooling

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • AWS Certification preferred, especially D17.1

Experience Requirements

  • 5 to 7 years of welding experience required
  • Aviation welding experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with aircraft structural components and tooling

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of blow torches, welding torches, mobile welding units, welding masks, rod ovens, storage ovens, hot boxes, and welding guns
  • Ability to repair aircraft body or structure according to specifications
  • Strong knowledge of machines, tools, and production processes
  • Proficiency with air-powered hand tools
  • Understanding of quality control and aviation manufacturing standards
  • Ability to design and build GSE equipment
  • Strong material ordering and inventory management awareness

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Must comply with OSHA, EPA, and Federal aviation regulations
  • Ability to wear a respirator per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134
  • Subject to random FAA drug and alcohol testing
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in hot and cold conditions
  • Must lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
  • Ability to work overhead, at heights, and in confined spaces
  • Must be able to climb and work on elevated structures
  • Flexible schedule and shift availability required
