Adventure Summer Camp Assistant Director

POSITION SUMMARY:
Seasonal position of the Summer Camp Assistant Director works to further the mission of the camp through the planning and delivery of camp programs, staff training and development and assisting in the management of overall camp operations at the direction of the Camp Director, primarily at the Camp Seton outdoor site location.

Camp Director
PAY RANGE:
$23/hour - $25/hour
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist the Camp Director with administration and communication logistics before, during, and after the camp season.
- Assist with the supervision and development of summer staff and daily logistics and operations.
- Acting director when camp director is off site and/or in a separate location from camp director.
- Development and execution of the Counselor In Training program.
- Support staff with general needs, inquiries, and facilitation of programs.
- Support staff with team building, conflict resolution, and assist with staff evaluations and feedback.
- Help create records and documentation for training, facilitation, and programs.
- Facilitates a program environment that promotes safety, teamwork, and respect; and develops confidence and leadership.
- Provides careful, attentive supervision, and is alert at all times.
- Helps to provide a program that adheres to all YMCA health and safety standards, meeting all YMCA policies.
- Helps to provide a program that exhibits high standards in cleanliness and presentation.
- Upholds the association’s child protection policies, child abuse, and neglect guidelines and proper reporting procedures at all times.
- Demonstrates appropriate decision-making skills.
- Reliably works assigned shifts at either site location if needed.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of the YMCA mission values, purpose, and goals.
- In order to enhance the overall operation of the YMCA of Greenwich and to support teamwork, I will accept additional responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum two (2) years supervisory experience, leading groups and working with children/teens.
- Comfort with multi-tasking and making decisions in a leadership position.
- Experience with problem-solving in a fast-paced working environment.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable.
- Strong communication, written, and public speaking skills.
- Organized and consistent.
- Experience with creating schedules, running meetings, and delivering feedback.
- Prior to or upon hire, completion of YMCA provided First Aid/ CPR/AED certification and Medication Administration certification courses. Lifeguard certification preferred, but not required.
- Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.

- Salary is competitive dependent upon experience.
