Job Description: Design and operate network and telecom services and solutions to support the laboratory's mission. Assist researchers to provide IT infrastructure solutions at all NREL locations and collaboration with other National Laboratories on research projects, as well as NREL partners. Work closely with other ITS network engineers, ITS teams, researchers, and research operations staff. Assist in the implementation of network engineering solutions and support for all NREL building access controls and lab protection networks as necessary. Perform network engineering to support research, administrative, and data center needs. Develop telecommunications to support unified communications and collaboration services. Implement infrastructure automation for campus, research and data center solutions, and a structured cabling team that designs and installs indoor and outdoor cabling infrastructure. May provide subject matter expertise to research constituents based on project assignment. Up to 3 days telework permitted per week, reporting to office in Golden, CO.
Job Requirements: Requires Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field of study and 3 years of experience OR a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field of study and 5 years of experience. Must have experience in each of the following skills: Cisco routers and switches in a large corporate environment; Configuring and troubleshooting firewalls; Configuring and troubleshooting routing technologies and protocols such as BGP and OSPF; Configuring and troubleshooting switching technologies and protocols such as VLANs, Etherchannel, Spanning Tree, and QOS; VPNs such as IPsec or SSL; Troubleshooting LAN/WAN and application performance related issues; Network management tools such as Cisco Prime, SolarWinds and NETQ; Configuring RADIUS and TACACS; Optical Ethernet concepts such as single-mode and multi-mode fiber, transceiver types; and Operating systems such as Linux, OS X, and Microsoft Windows.
