The Employee Benefits (EB) Consulting Practice offers excellent retirement, health, compensation, and investment consulting services to our clients. We are seeking an analytical and detail-oriented Actuarial Analyst to support our defined benefit pension & OPEB clients. As an Actuarial Analyst, your primary responsibilities include conducting funding and accounting valuations, processing census data, and calculating liabilities using ProVal. You may also prepare government filings, perform benefit calculations, prepare benefit statements, and assist with zone certifications. You will work closely with your team and other internal teams, with limited client interaction, while learning and applying foundational actuarial skills. What You Will Do

This entry level position provides support and assistance to actuarial consultants. You will perform actuarial tasks to support defined benefit pension and OPEB plans, including funding and accounting valuations, census data processing, and liability calculations using ProVal. You will prepare benefit statements, government filings, and assist with zone certifications as needed. You will ensure your work is accurate, well-documented, and completed on time while following established processes and compliance requirements. In this role, you will collaborate with your team, apply foundational actuarial skills, and communicate effectively about project status and deadlines.


Perform actuarial valuations for pension and OPEB plans, including census data processing and liability calculations using ProVal.
Prepare and review government filings, benefit statements, and assist with zone certifications as needed.
Ensure accurate and timely delivery of work products, following established processes and documentation standards.
Initiate peer review and comply with document and email retention policies.
Monitor and communicate regulatory changes to maintain plan compliance.
Track time spent on projects and communicate budget needs proactively.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized individual with a bachelor's degree in mathematics, actuarial science, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have strong Excel skills, a willingness to learn actuarial concepts, and the ability to work efficiently within established processes. Effective communication, teamwork, and a commitment to meeting deadlines and compliance standards are essential for success in this role. Experience with ProVal and prior actuarial work is a plus. Professional Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field preferred (or nearing completion in May 2026).
A minimum of one SOA exam passed.
0-2 years of experience as an Actuarial Analyst.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills; experience with data analysis in employee benefits or health care preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ProVal is a plus.
Ability to produce accurate and timely work while following established processes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft professional emails and documentation.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and interact with cross-functional teams.
Eagerness to learn foundational actuarial concepts and gain exposure to more complex tasks.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and complying with document retention policies.

Location

Candidates hired into this role will be required to work in-person two days a week in a Milliman office in one of the following locations: Walnut Creek, CA, Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, Boise, ID, Chicago, IL, New York City, NY or Little Falls, NJ on a weekly basis, but flexible work arrangements will be considered.

Compensation

The overall salary range for this role is $60,300 - $121,555

For candidates residing in:


Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, New York City, California or Washington the salary range is $69,345 - $121,555


All other locations the salary range is $60,300 - $105,700

A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.
