Accounting Manager

Position Overview
The Accounting Manager will oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations for a mission‑driven nonprofit organization, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with GAAP and nonprofit regulatory requirements. This role partners closely with program leadership, development, and operations to support budgeting, reporting, audits, and grant‑related accounting.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month‑end and year‑end close
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and budget‑to‑actual variance analysis
- Manage and review accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll entries, and cash management activities
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with finance leadership and department heads
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, donor restrictions, and grant reporting requirements
- Coordinate audit preparation and serve as a primary liaison with external auditors; support Form 990 preparation as needed
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures
- Partner cross‑functionally with development, programs, HR, and operations to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff or provide oversight to outsourced accounting partners, as applicable
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
