Education
- Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA designation or CPA-track strongly preferred
Experience
- Minimum of 57 years of progressive accounting experience
- At least 23 years in a supervisory or management role
- Experience working directly with executive leadership (CFO/President) preferred
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or multi-entity environments strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual-based accounting
- Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Advanced general ledger management and month-end close experience
- Experience supervising Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and payroll functions
- Multi-state payroll tax and Canadian (Quebec payroll) reporting knowledge preferred
- Experience coordinating with external auditors, tax accountants, and insurance providers
- Strong cash management and banking experience, including wire transfers and account monitoring
- Inventory accounting and cost accounting experience preferred
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain confidentiality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with payroll software, Paylocity a plus
- Work with Executive management to positively inspire our work
The Accounting Manager works directly with the CEO, President and CFO and is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance functions. This role encompasses accounts payable and receivable, supervises payroll processes, ensures accurate financial records, and supports regulatory and tax reporting requirements. The position requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to supervise all company accounting functions effectively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & General Accounting
- Prepare and assist with monthly, calendar and fiscal year reporting
- Manage accruals and ongoing accounting system maintenance
- Maintain and review the general ledger
- Prepare and post various general journal entries each month
- Monitor monthly bank transactions and reconciliations
- Monitor and direct company investment accounts
- Review fixed asset listings and update insurance records
- Oversee and monitor account transactions, including special or intercompany transactions
- Provide miscellaneous reports as requested
- Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable staff and functions
- Oversee internal and external collections processes
- Review of freight invoices
- Monitor and reconcile customer and vendor accounts
- Supervise all payroll functions
- Serve as co-processor for monthly payroll of salaried personnel
- Serve as review and backup for hourly biweekly payroll processing
- Serve as co-processor and ensure compliance with Canada & Quebec payroll reporting requirements
- Supporting Director of Canada as needed. Canada: CARM/GST Report, accounting support, insurance, payroll (Payworks), And Work with/support Director of Canada as needed.
- Oversee payroll benefits working with benefits insurance brokers, including Form 5500
- Audit employee payroll deductions and oversee plans
- Work with VP of Sales and CFO to process Territory Managers compensation
- Review and take corrective actions where necessary
- Manage workers compensation reporting
- Oversee various state tax filings related to payroll
- 401(k) plans, investment reviews, reporting requirements and audits
- Prepare and submit Canada GST reports
- Provide required documentation and information to the tax accountant for federal tax returns
- Perform insurance reporting, assist and coordinate annual applications and audits
- Support compliance with federal, state, and international tax regulations
- Conduct inventory accounting reviews
- Prepare royalty reports
- Oversee expense processing systems (e.g., Expense Point), interface with accounting software
- Manage web-based financial processing systems
