Accounting Manager

We are seeking an Accounting Manager to support a mission-driven organization focused on affordable housing and community development. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys leadership, project-based accounting, and collaborative work across development, operations, and finance.
You will oversee accounting for housing development projects and affiliated management entities, support month-end close and audits, and lead a small team of finance professionals. The role works closely with senior leadership and plays a key part in maintaining accurate, audit-ready financials for investors, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
What You Will Do
Lead and Develop a Team
- Manage one Staff Accountant and two Financial Analysts
- Provide coaching, performance management, and ongoing training
- Ensure deadlines and quality standards are consistently met
Manage Core Accounting Operations
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations for housing affiliate and management entities, including bank accounts, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close
- Ensure accurate recording, classification, and analysis of income, expenses, accounts receivable, and general ledger activity
- Develop, review, and maintain budgets and month-end budget variance reports in partnership with housing staff and senior finance leadership
- Prepare and analyze monthly and quarterly financial statements in accordance with GAAP for management, regulators, and investors
- Reconcile intercompany transactions and due to/due from accounts across affiliated entities
- Strengthen and maintain internal controls and accounting processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and audit readiness
Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial reports
- Analyze income statements, balance sheets, and budget variances
- Support budgeting and forecasting for housing and management entities
- Provide clear financial summaries for leadership, investors, and regulators
Audit, Compliance, and Project Accounting
- Prepare audit schedules and work papers for housing and agency audits
- Support tax and regulatory reporting as needed
- Oversee construction accounting using the Yardi Construction Module
- Reconcile construction requisitions and payments to the general ledger
Collaboration and Special Projects
- Oversee construction accounting, ensuring all construction expenses, requisitions, and payments are accurately recorded and fully reconciled to the general ledger
- Review and support financial reporting requirements for limited partners, HUD programs, and other investors or financial institutions
- Partner closely with housing development teams to coordinate project activity and maintain audit‑ready financial records
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
- Five or more years of accounting experience
- Prior experience managing or supervising staff
- Proficiency in Excel and accounting systems, including Yardi
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
