Detention Officer – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

Pay: $30/hour + bonus eligible
Position Summary
The Detention Officer helps keep a secure immigration detention facility safe and running smoothly under ICE standards.
You will supervise detained individuals, enforce rules, and complete security checks. Your work helps protect staff, detainees, and visitors while supporting a professional and respectful environment.
Key Responsibilities
Security and Supervision
Maintain custody and supervision of detained individuals in assigned areas
Conduct regular rounds, security checks, and counts
Monitor movement and activities to prevent issues
Enforce rules fairly and consistently
Watch housing units, common areas, and recreation areas
Incident Response and Safety
Respond to emergencies and disturbances using training and procedure
Use communication and de-escalation to manage situations
Report safety concerns or unusual activity right away
Help maintain a safe environment for everyone
Security Procedures
Search housing areas and property to prevent contraband
Maintain constant awareness of detainee populations
Monitor entrances and follow all security protocols
Documentation and Reporting
Keep clear and accurate logs of daily activity
Document incidents and rule violations
Share important information with supervisors and staff
Professional Conduct
Treat all individuals with professionalism and respect
Use good judgment and stay accountable in all decisions
Support a culture focused on safety, professionalism, and ethics
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Ability to pass a background investigation and security clearances
Ability to complete required detention officer training
Strong communication and conflict management skills
Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Preferred Experience
Corrections, detention, law enforcement, military, or security experience
Military or law enforcement training may substitute for correctional experience
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for long periods
Ability to respond to emergencies in a correctional environment
