Niles Home for Children, which provides residential and day treatment behavioral health programs and has operated for 133 years in Kansas City, Missouri, is now part of KVC Health Systems. The two organizations have joined forces to enhance Niles’ quality of services and its sustainability for years to come. The partnership will strengthen behavioral healthcare best practices, high-quality support staff, and cutting-edge training to Niles Home for Children and expand KVC Health Systems’ broad continuum of care with a unique short-term treatment facility for youth.

The Substance Abuse Counselor serves as a support system for children and adolescents, providing counseling, therapeutic intervention, and/or substance abuse education classes to clients to assist them in recognizing problems and causal factors related to substance abuse and developing alternative coping behaviors.

• Conduct weekly group sessions to provide drug prevention education to adolescent clients.
• Build a rapport with clients, their families and/or guardians.
• Maintain records of client interaction by preparing weekly progress notes and quarterly staffing notes.
• Attend weekly supervision and strategic planning meetings.
• Collaborate with other agencies and co-facilitate community forums.
• Consult with members of interdisciplinary treatment team to assess client progress.
• Plan and monitor group activities
• Assist with behavior management intervention as needed.
• Administer and collect data for outcomes measurements.
• Maintains certification with the state of Missouri
• Other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s degree, from an accredited college or university, in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, Nursing, Education or other areas of study recognized by the Missouri Credentialing Board (MCB) is preferred.  Will consider Associate’s Degree in field of study recognized by MCB, with MCB certification.
Certification with Missouri Credentialing Board in drug, alcohol, or substance abuse. Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
Preferred Experience: 
1-year experience working in a substance abuse treatment, outpatient treatment, residential treatment and/or similar facility that provides services to children and families.

Requires Intermediate computer skills in typing/keyboarding, Microsoft Word and Excel programs as well as Outlook email.
