That’s Good HR is currently recruiting  a Medical Coder for immediate openings with our client in Indianapolis, Indiana.

CCA, CPC-A, CPC

Great work environment with supportive team while you grow and learn all facets of specialties in the physician coding field.

Must be available full time in the Indianapolis area.

In general, the Medical Coder positions will include the following responsibilities:

  • Reviews Medical Records and codes inpatient hospital charges
  • Work in Athena System
  • Work all specialties-all payors
  • Physician coders will also handle follow up work including physician charges that have been submitted and denied for coding related issues.
  • Will also review coding denials, review medical records, write and submit coding related appeals to various insurance companies and follow up on those appeals until resolved.
  • Individual will also provide feedback and education to all areas needed pertaining to audit results.  
  • Makes Coding Changes and Corrections in Practice Management System based on Medical Record Review
  • Submits claim corrections and appeals to insurance companies based on review of review of Medical records and proper coding guidelines
  • Reviews payer websites and NCCI edits researching correct coding policies and procedures
  • Documents all changes accurately and in detail within the Practice Management System
  • Communicates and educates with practice sites as needed regarding proper coding changes rules, guidelines and procedures
  • Recommends front end edits and changes in an effort to reduce coding related denials and push ownership and education to the proper area

Job Requirements of the Medical Coder:

To perform the Medical Coder job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Problem solving – the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully
  • Knowledge of state plans ideal
  • Adaptability – the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events
  • Dependability – the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance
  • Experienced with insurance systems or with Medicare and Medicaid online systems
  • Associates degree related to the medical field preferred but not required depending on experience
  • Knowledge of ICD 10 coding guidelines and applications
  • Must have 1-2 years experience with coding
