The Opportunity


We are seeking  an individual who is an entrepreneurial, hands-on Human Resource Professional focused on organizational improvement in operations including health and safety.   

Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Human Resources will be tasked with supporting the current business and growth strategies for two companies, including post-merger integration, organic growth, and add-on acquisitions.  The Director of HR will provide direction, oversight, and support for all the facilities in Record Keeping, General Administration, Recruitment, and Safety.  Position will be reporting to the President & CEO and working directly with senior management and plant management.  Currently there are 1.5 FTE’s reporting to the position.

Specifically, this individual will:

  • Record Keeping
  • Proper maintenance of human resource files and database compliant with record keeping and retention regulation and protect from identity theft.
  • Assure compliance with government requirements for record keeping and retention.
  • Manage and administer leaves (STD, LTD, Sick Time & FMLA).
  • Oversee accurate and timely payroll functions.
  • Write reports in Report Writer out of ADP to extract data as needed.
  • Write reports in Time Guardian Report Writer to extract data and provide current reporting of labor as well as identifying attendance/tardy issues.  Monitor exceptions to assure people are on the correct shift and correctly compensated.
  • Timely reporting of required reports.  (EEOC, Creditable Coverage, DOL surveys, 401(k) reports, termination notice for employees in GA, information from providers to attorney for 5500 reporting, responses to unemployment claims, SPD distribution, etc.).
  • Assure Atlas is compliant with I9 documentation and registering of new hires with DHL.

  • Administration
  • Company Privacy Officer responsible for confidential handling of sensitive information.
  • Investigate complaints of unfair or discriminatory treatment or harassment.
  • Administrator of 401(k) plan which includes verifying and approving hardship withdrawal requests and documentation, required communication about the plan to participants, 5500 reporting to Principal, required document review and timely responses for the plan.
  • Participate in health insurance and dental insurance renewals. Provide data for the quoting process.
  • Assist employees with insurance claims or questions.
  • Perform required administration and review of ACA and 1095 reporting.
  • Review all disciplinary action prior to meeting with employee to assure it is clear, concise with consistent expectations for all employees. 
  • Respond to employment verifications cautiously to protect current and former employees.
  • Perform background checks, reference checks and driving record verifications.
  • Respond successfully to unemployment claims using accumulated documentation.
  • Provide first response to any EEOC or DOL claim of unfair or discriminatory practices.

  • Recruitment
  • Prospect creatively on line for potential candidates for hire.
  • Write ads and review resume submissions screening for viable candidates.
  • Participate in interview process for potential hires for salaried positions.
  • Schedule profile testing for sales and management positions.  Distribute results.
  • Test for basic skills and interview candidates screening for Elkhart and Chem-Milling.  Respond timely to those not selected.
  • Pre-screen via the telephone as requested for other facilities.
  • Conduct Exit Interviews.
  • Continuously review skills and pay scales needed to attract talent.

  • General
  • Responsible for communicating general information within company.
  • Be employee advocate within established guidelines and company principles.
  • Remain cognizant of setting precedents.
  • Reach effective solutions while balancing the needs of the organization against the expectations of individuals.
  • Work with all managers to be a cohesive business unit and have effective communication.
  • Back-up payroll in the event of absence which includes uploading weekly contributions and loan payments in to 401(k).
  • Ongoing review employee handbook to assure current language and expectations.
  • Be a visible participant – LEAN, safety meetings, 5 S, Kaizen.


  • Safety
    • Report worker compensation claims to carrier, post on 300 logs, follow up with care provider as necessary.  Identify to carrier any questionable claim so carrier can investigate appropriately.
    • Maintain all Atlas facilities 300 logs and supportive documentation. 
    • Provide 300 logs to facilities for timely posting.
    • Track trends of safety incidents and report to management groups. 
    • Monthly reporting of RIR.
    • Review incident investigations for clarity, immediate resolution and long-term resolution. before submitting to President/CEO for follow up conversations.
    • Schedule and moderate monthly Safety Plan Review with President and Directors of Manufacturing setting and reviewing goals and timelines.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of state and federal labor and OSHA laws and regulations to ensure local compliance with federal and state laws for GA, IN, IL, MA, NC, AZ, MI.
    • Update Safety manual as needed.
    • Review for approval LOTO work details prior to submitting for inclusion on SharePoint.
    • Respond to any OSHA citations in a timely manner and endeavor to reduce penalties.
    • Create PowerPoints to assist in Safety training.
    • Monitor monthly safety training packets for completeness and discoveries.
    • Establish relationships with voluntary compliance officers (SHARP) to assist with safety compliance questions throughout the company.

  • Development
    • Counsel managers on approach and possible solutions for issues with employees.
    • Research to find training seminars and classes to further develop skills of managers.
    • Review, revise as needed annual peer review process.
    • Should a RIF become necessary distribute and then review RIF assessments and tabulate results.  Create separation and release documentation accordingly.  If not actually meeting with individuals of a RIF coach their managers on how to deliver the documents and the message.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will possess strong human resource / general management skills.   Communication and passion for safety a must. 

  • Experience in multi-states small manufacturing facilities.
  • Thorough understanding of labor and benefit law and administration to ensure local compliance with federal and state laws for GA, IN, IL, MA, NC, AZ, MI.
  • Ability to teach and lead safety within the organization while holding managers accountable.
  • Strong communication skills – verbally and written with ability to know the audience and adjust the messaging accordingly.
  • 30-hour OSHA card helpful.
  • Understanding of Behavior Based Safety is good– certified to teach is better.
  • Work in a private equity environment with a leveraged capital structure a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA is preferred.
