Job Description

A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION PROVIDING MENTAL HEALTH SOLUTIONS

The Mental Health Counselor II / Screening Specialist provides a range of services as a part of the treatment team, with primary responsibility for answering calls in the TAY Central Screening Unit for the TAY PEI, Outpatient, FCCS, FSP, SEIPS, and CAPPS Programs and for providing direct case management and community outreach (COS) services.  Under the supervision of the Program Managers at the TAY site, the Screening Specialist will conduct screenings by phone, or in person for individuals who walk into the clinic, in order to collect information regarding presenting symptoms and behaviors, and will then determine eligibility for services.  Additionally, the Screening Specialist will be responsible for linking callers to appropriate alternative or additional resources in the community, such as emergency basic support services.




DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


 


Provides services to all calls and walk-ins received by the TAY Screening Unit’s dedicated phone line and completes the screening tools in order to determine eligibility for services in one of the TAY’s Outpatient, PEI/CAPPS, RRR - FCCS, or FSP Programs.




Provides direct Targeted Case Management and other billable services with families as assigned. Provides Community Outreach Services and bills this time under COS funding.  Assists the Psychiatrist(s) at the site with setting appointments and follow-ups as needed.  Provides approximately 24 hours of productivity per month.




Assists TAY Central Screening Unit callers/families by linking them to appropriate services within their communities, including mental health, substance use, domestic violence, health, recreation, and other support services and needs.  Provides follow up calls when messages are left inquiring about services with the Center, and carefully details all conversations and attempts to call families.  Works in conjunction with other staff to ensure coordination of tracking logs, and to ensure that all families are linked to appropriate services.




Completes all required paperwork/documentation with attention to detail.  Provides English-Spanish translation services with TAY Psychiatrists as required and as assigned.  Attends and participates in weekly staff meetings and other meetings and trainings as assigned.


Job Requirements

Bachelor’s (BA or BS) degree in a related field.




At least two (2) years’ experience either employed or working as a volunteer with children, adolescents, and families with a strengths-based, family-centered approach is preferred.




Valid California Driver’s License is required. Must meet guidelines of agency’s driving criteria (i.e.  Proof of liability insurance, minimal moving violations, driving record free of DUI’s or reckless driving in the last 3 years, etc.), and maintain this criteria as per company policy at all times.




Bilingual Spanish-speaking ability required.

MA degree from an approved graduate school or program; MFTI or ACSW; Experience working with children in a behavioral health setting; Valid CA Driver License and insurable by the Center’s automobile
