Basic Function

The Senior Mechanical Specialist manages all aspects of the rotating equipment and some aspects of the fixed equipment inspection and maintenance program for our High Density Polyethylene manufacturing site located in Victoria, TX. This includes providing daily support for rotating and stationary equipment (outside of what is handled by the site inspector), coordinating the on-stream inspection and maintenance program and developing/executing maintenance and inspection scope for turnarounds and plant outages. The Senior Mechanical Specialist is also responsible for special reliability programs such as Condition Monitoring (Vibration, Thermography), Lubrication and Oil Blending.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Possesses a deep expertise in rotating equipment and will be considered as the site's expert in this discipline. Will work with our reliability engineers and supervision to troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions, optimizing cost and timing.
  • Performs risk-based analysis, develops inspection and preventative/predictive maintenance plans, coordinates inspections and testing, evaluates results, develops run/repair/replace recommendations, tracks recommendations to closure and keeps all data current and evergreen.
  • Develops and performs training of maintenance technicians as required in support of their development and to ensure their competency in performing their assigned tasks.
  • Coordinates maintenance and contractor crews for various maintenance activities and reviews results and performance.
  • Performs QA surveillance of rotating and some stationary equipment maintenance work to ensure complaince with the requirements. Reviews and approves repair plan to correct non-conformances.
  • Performs analysis of KPI's, maintenance work, inspection and testing results to identify opportunity projects to reduce risk, reduce maintenance costs and improve reliability.
  • Develops rotating and some stationary equipment inspection and repair scopes for plant outages and turnarounds.
  • Functions as the mechanical lead and occassionally project manager or construction coordinator for turnarounds and maintenance outages on various maintenance jobs or faciltilies, expense and captial projects.
  • Has ownership and responsibility for reliability programs such as Condition Monitoring (Vibration, Thermography), Lubrication and Oil Blending.
  • Has ownership and responsibility for the maintenance and reliability of site HVAC systems
  • Ownership and responsibility for the site's excavation program and coordinates excavation activities with site owners. Responsible for assuring site personnel and contractors follow the site excavation procedure and requirements.
Min. Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 10 years maintenance support experience, including chemical process equipment, mixers, pumps, blowers, seals, and compressors. Having gained secondary technical knowledge through craft specific training/certification and /or an applicable Associate's degree program.
  • Strong field troubleshooting skills on rotating equipment used in petrochemical manufacturing facilities.
  • Strong communication skills; strong verbal communication skiils including one-on-one dialog up to delivering presentations to larger groups. Strong written communication skills, possessing the ability to write concise technical updates and recommendations to all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to develop a rapport with hourly personnel in both Maintenance and Operations. Works with different levels of the organization including craft/operator level, engineering level , and management. Interfaces with company and contract crafts to improve repair quality in the field and shop. Ability to mentor new engineers, other specialists, supervision, and technicians on equipment operation and repair.
  • Ownership - Demonstrates a high level of ownership in areas of responsibility. Proactively identifies and champions changes in equipment, processes, or procedures that improve reliability. Creates opportunities to mentor engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
  • Strong mentoring/training skills with operations and maintenance personnel on machinery issues
  • Basic omputer skills, MS Office, etc. Familiarity with basic functions and application of CMMS programs, SAP famiiarity is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a mechanical maintenance technician
  • Prior experience with basic vibration data collection and analysis, Vibration Level I or II certification desired.
  • Extensive experience with turnaround or shutdown support.
  • Experience with oil analysis or machinery lubrication programs.
  • Knowledge of shop and/or field machinery QA/QC function.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Thermography Certification - Level 1 minimum (higher preferred)
  • Vibration Analyst Certifiction - Level 2 minimum (higher preferred)
