Esteemed health care organization in Orange County is looking for an experienced Medical Collections Specialist.  
Candidate must have experience with hospital patient accounting, EOB, MediCal and other government prorams. 

Position:         Medical Collections Specialist

Location:        Costa Mesa, CA

Schedule:        Monday – Friday / 8:30AM -5:00PM

Duration:        Temp to Hire

Rate:               $16.00 - $17.00/ hr.

Position requires handling incoming inquiries from any customer; patient, or insurance company, whether by telephone, mail or in person.  Must be familiar with Medi-Cal and other government programs.  Ability to contact patients regarding self-pay balances on the accounts receivable to evaluate patient’s ability to pay and collect money. Can work with minimal supervision.

DUTIES

  • Assists patients with billing, services, and insurance questions on the phone, via email or in person
  • Documents all calls and actions taken in the appropriate systems
  • Record all patient complaints/disputes and forward to appropriate person for follow up
  • Contact patients/guarantors to secure payment for services provided
  • Confirms/updates with patient/guarantor insurance and patient demographics information Makes appropriate changes and submits/re-submits claims as indicated
  • Informs patients/guarantors of opportunities for financial assistance, including Medi-Cal/MSI and other available governmental or private programs
  • Familiar with financial assistance program to provide patient/guarantor assistance with completion when appropriate
  • Establishes payment arrangements when patients are unable to pay in full, at time of payment is due. Including installment plans and patient settlements
  • Responsible for following all collection policies and procedures
  • Meets quality assurance and productivity standards
  • Returns all voice mail messages/emails same day received
  • Generates itemized bills as needed to any customer, internal or external
  • Refers all mail and phone calls of outsourced accounts to the vendor liaison
  • Works patient correspondence in accordance to department policies
  • Takes part in all training about third party requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have hospital patient accounting knowledge - REQUIRED
  • Must have knowledge of MediCal and other government programs
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working as a Self-Pay Collector in a hospital environment
  • Knowledge of hospital patient accounting and EOB
  • Ability to explain liability to patients and set up payment plans
  • Bilingual English/Spanish – PREFERRED
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and all other third party payment methods
  • Insurance knowledge and communication with payers
  • Outstanding skills in self-pay collection techniques
  • Must have superb customer service skills and telephone etiquette
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem solving skills essential
  • Ability to think independently and ability to use good judgment in various situations
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and Access - PREFERRED
  • Ability to establish work priorities and prioritize needs to meet required timelines
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
