Senior Manager, Global Business Development (Payments)

Job Description

The Global Business Development team is seeking a Senior Manager to lead the JCB relationship. This person will be responsible for managing the JCB relationship in the U.S. by working closely with JCB International Americas HQ in LA and influencing decision makers in Japan HQ. As one of the largest and most established network alliance, the JCB Senior Manager will be responsible for continuing to build and maintain acceptance and grow non-traditional volume on Discover Network. *This role is ideally located in Riverwoods (IL) but REMOTE candidates out of LA will be considered.


* Manage the overall communications internally and externally primarily with JCB USA and Tokyo as needed.
* Serve as the point of contact for internal and external business partners in enablement of U.S. (online) merchants for JCB acceptance, directly or through our channel partners.
* Work closely with the Global Merchant Marketing team to create and execute JCB cardmember marketing and signage programs in the U.S., to drive incremental volume.
* Manage communications to achieve 100% acceptance for Discover products in Japan
* Collaborate with JCB US and Tokyo to maintain and continue to develop new merchant marketing opportunities for Discover and other network alliance partner
* Seek new business development opportunities with JCB in US and Japan and also leverage the existing JCB relationship to explore other business opportunities to support expanded acceptance or issuance for Discover
* Oversee the implementation of JCB global ATM and POS initiatives per the Phase III and IV contract.
* Lead collaboration between Discover and JCB, including EMV implementation in US and potential cooperation in mobile payment
* Evaluate and communicate regularly about the core business to internal and external business partners including Senior Management, communicating key findings and making recommendations and modifications accordingly
* Promote a risk-aware culture; ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and practices #LI-BP1

Skills Required:

* Bachelor's degree (Master's Degree preferred)
* 7 years of successful relationship management experience/client-facing and/or B2B experience
* Established knowledge of the payments industry
* Proven success in leading business critical projects including ability to work across all levels and departments of the organization
* Experience leading teams required and prior experience managing direct reports highly preferred
* Comfortable working through new situations with no established frameworks or methodologies
* Excellent client focus and relationship-building skills. Ability to passionately advocate for the needs of JCB both internally and externally, while juggling the goals and needs of Discover.
* Strong analytical skills
* Excellent presentation and communication skills including ability to influence others, comfortable presenting to clients and Senior Management
* Ability to navigate through various cultural nuances while keeping all parties happy
* Ability to travel (20%), as needed
* Experience or background in international business and/or Japanese language is highly preferred
