Assist each client with their daily needs, as specified in individual care plans and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Support includes daily life skills, community integration through outside activities, and assistance with medical care. Conduct oneself in a professional manner, and abide by agency and state policies and procedures at all times. The Summer Academy utilizes an Experiential Learning framework (Kolb) to develop hands-on, student- centered, and rigorous academic courses offered annually June thru August.

<p>Whatcom Community College welcomes applications for<strong> </strong>a Part-Time Hourly, Upward Bound Summer Academy Instructor for Lab Science.</p><p>About Upward Bound:</p><p>Upward Bound is a U.S. Department of Education grant designed to increase postsecondary enrollment and graduation rates of participating students. The grant funds the Upward Bound Whatcom Community College program, which provides year-round academic support and college readiness opportunities for sixty program participants. The program serves students from communities marginalized by the institution of higher education, including youth from low-income backgrounds who will be among the first generation in their families to graduate from college. Upward Bound Whatcom Community College provides direct services to students from Ferndale, Nooksack, and Mount Baker High schools and supports the mission of Whatcom Community College to provide outreach and services to local communities.</p><p>The Summer Academy utilizes an Experiential Learning framework (Kolb) to develop hands-on, student- centered, and rigorous academic courses offered annually June thru August. Our instructors are passionate educators willing to share their knowledge and learn alongside participants to encourage growth and learning in your field of expertise. Summer Instructors will work as part of an instructional and student support team and reports to the Director of Upward Bound who provides supervision and guidance throughout the program.</p><p>Schedule: Includes preparation, teaching, staff collaboration and weekly staff meetings during the 2026 Summer Academy.  <br/>Dates to plan for:<br/>June 8<sup>th</sup>-19<sup>th</sup>: Offsite teacher curriculum preparation.<br/>June 25<sup>th</sup> -July 31<sup>st</sup>: Up to 8 hours of classroom instruction weekly, delivered in-person on the Whatcom Community College Campus.<br/>July 31<sup>st</sup> -Final celebration.</p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul><li>Attend initial training and ongoing program team meetings. </li><li>Work cooperatively with other instructors and program staff to prepare course and implement outcome and inquiry-based curriculum. </li><li>Teach and mentor students.</li><li>Consider varied learning needs of students to differentiate/individualize instruction, as well as provide group and experiential learning instruction, so that all students can learn effectively.</li><li>Assess, evaluate, record, and report student performance.</li><li>Prepare pre-assessments & post-assessments to demonstrate student growth.</li><li>Facilitate a respectful, culturally relevant, experiential, and cooperative learning environment.</li><li>Attend weekly faculty meetings and staff meetings as required.</li><li>Create & submit lesson plans, syllabus, and final student evaluations for program documentation. </li></ul><h2>Qualifications</h2><p>Candidate must demonstrate: </p><p>Abilities to: </p><ul><li>Develop engaging, hands-on lessons for diverse learners that will encourage growth in the following subject: Lab Science.</li><li>Be willing to relate to students' lived experiences and incorporate their cultural wealth of knowledge into the learning environment.</li><li>Be able and willing to use technology, PowerPoint, Canvas and software such as word processing programs, spreadsheet programs, and internet browsers in classroom teaching.</li><li>Attend class field trips (TBD). </li></ul><p> <br/> Minimum Qualifications: </p><ul><li>Possess or pursuing a Teaching Certificate in relevant discipline and teaching experience. </li></ul><p>OR </p><ul><li>Candidate that demonstrates sufficient education and work experience in related field. </li></ul><p> Preferred Qualifications: </p><ul><li> Demonstrated successful teaching experience with Upward Bound or with similarly underserved students. </li></ul><p>Salary:</p><ul><li>This is a part-time hourly, non-permanent position with a wage of $48.15 per hour (current adjunct instructor salary rate). Total hours for instruction and meeting time to be determined. </li></ul><p>Application Due Date:</p><ul><li>For guaranteed consideration, application packets should be received by Friday, April 24th, 2026 at 5:00 pm.
