Historic Preservation Planner I

The Historic Preservation Planner I is responsible for assisting the Historic Preservation Office by perfoming administrative duties for the design review counter and interpreting and applying Secretary of Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and the city’s General Design Guidelines. Duties also include processing design review applications by consulting with customers, researching historic properties, reviewing and approving plans, and entering data into the permitting system. The Historic Preservation office coordinates the processing of demolition plan reviews for unlisted commercial properties 50 years of age or older as well as individually eligible properties, and all properties within the Downtown Code zoning boundaries.

RECRUITMENT DATES

Recruitment closes September 9, 2019. All materials must be received by 11:59 p.m. on this date.  First review of applications will occur the week of August 19, 2019. Recruitment may close any time after the first review if we have received a sufficient number of qualified applications. 

SALARY

$50,066 - $76,211 annually. Candidates may be hired above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

  • A bachelor’s degree in history, historic preservation, city or urban planning, landscape architecture, architecture, or a related field.
  • One year of planning experience. .
  • An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – The job requirements listed above, plus:

  • Experience with the Secretary of Interior Standards and the General Design Guidelines for Historic Properties.
  • Knowledge of Historic Preservation.
  • Experience maintaining a geodatabase of eligible properties for the Historic Property Register.
  • Fluent Spanish speaker.
