Job Description

H&R Block, the world’s leader in tax preparation services, is seeking high potential retail management talent open to relocation for career advancement, for an exceptional development program leading to a District General Manager role. Your first year will include multi-faceted training and close mentorship from some of our top Managers and Directors. Upon successful completion of the 12-month training program, you will assume responsibility for your own district, leading a team of employees in retail locations, delivering client growth, profits, and increasing revenue. 

During your time as a District Manager in Training, you will assist the District Manager in the management and supervision of the district through establishing and maintaining offices, hiring, training, and evaluating district associates. You will share responsibility with the District Manager to ensure that policies and procedures are followed in each supervised office ensuring client satisfaction through a consistently positive experience. This is a full-time, year-round position. The seasonal nature of our business provides a unique opportunity to spend significant time in planning and preparation, so you can deliver a winning tax season (much like a sports team!). Apply to this position by April 19, 2019.

What you’ll do…

  • Develop, teach and monitor office staff behaviors to deliver Operational Excellence that drives top line and bottom line performance growth
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard high caliber, top performing talent for key district positions
  • Provide leadership, coaching, recognition, and development opportunities to associates to create a high performing, engaged, and collaborative district team aligned with the Company’s vision and mission
  • Support Office Leaders in hiring and performance management of office-level associates
  • Implement district level business plan, leverage data to identify district growth opportunities, and hold office leaders and associates accountable for business growth at office and individual levels
  • Meet or exceed sales targets by developing and executing a sales plan that grows market share and clients, while retaining current client base
  • Accelerate growth through active participation in business growth plans
  • Serve as brand ambassador and promote the H&R Block brand within community, to clients, and to associates
  • Develop, implement and monitor strategy to increase client satisfaction and client retention within district
  • Seek and utilize client feedback to drive decisions and prioritize client-focused change

Job Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role… 

  • Open to relocation within the US, with the location of your district to be determined after the completion of your development program and based on business needs
  • Willing to reside in a designated training city during your development program, which will be approximately one year
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of experience managing people, preferably in a multi-unit retail or field-based environment
  • Experience with organizational planning techniques including budgeting, strategy development, goal and objective setting, staffing, and establishment of work standards
  • Strong interpersonal and customer relationship skills with the desire and proven ability to work in diverse settings, and at all levels within an organization
  • Ability to plan and coordinate multiple projects, work initiatives, and deadlines
  • Willingness to work irregular schedules
  • Experience with a Windows-based computer system, the internet, and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • If offered, relocate to accept the promotion to a higher-level position
