Chief Medical Information Officer
Chief Medical Information Officer
The Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) will serve as a liaison between the medical staff and information systems team and will partner with the Chief Information Technology and Security Officer in the continued advancement of information technology into the hospital and ambulatory practice settings to promote the highest possible quality, safety, and evidence-based patient care. This position will have responsibility for physician engagement, adoption, standardization and optimization of clinical systems across the continuum of patient care. The CMIO will provide leadership for the adoption, implementation and optimization of health information systems that support patient care and advance clinical quality. The CMIO will be a skilled healthcare professional who has experience in a medical or health system environment through the continuous incorporation of best clinical evidence to support strategic initiatives such as health information exchange, data and analytics and emerging innovative technologies.
Key Responsibilities
· Works with clinical staff to develop and implement IT solutions that improve patient care. This includes working with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to identify their IT needs and developing and implementing solutions that meet those needs.
· Educates clinical staff on the use of IT in healthcare. Providing training on how to use IT systems to facilitate care of patients, their safety and ultimate outcomes.
· Builds relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, ancillary department personnel, medical records professionals and other patient care providers to develop an understanding of their workflow and facilitate the development and use of the clinical information system.
· Serves as a member of key health system committees responsible for patient safety, quality improvement, and operational effectiveness.
· Demonstrates high level of responsiveness to users’ needs, including training and ongoing support, to assure widespread provider support and use of the clinical systems.
· Remains current with medical informatics trends, experiences, and approaches
· Oversees the organization’s informatics strategy for integrating care across clinical venues, leveraging electronic health records, other clinical systems, health information exchange, data and analytics and emerging innovative technologies.
· Partner with operations, clinical, and finance leadership to enable provider focused health information technology in support of enterprise, regional, and market strategic priorities.
· Provide executive oversight to ensure adequate training (content, method and competency), provided and the facilitation of smooth transitions during electronic health record implementations, modifications and upgrades.
· Champion the use of the patient portal, telehealth services, and standardized workflows that place the patient at the center of each care experience.
· Promotes cost-effective medical care of the highest quality, patient satisfaction, and clinician provider/staff satisfaction throughout Roseland Community Hospital by facilitating the efficient use of information technology.
· Works with Chief Medical Officer and Chief Information Technology and Security Officer to build and enhance interfaces/integration with other provider organizations such as primary care groups, integrated delivery systems to create more seamless accessibility across EMRs.
· Oversees and provides leadership, mentoring, effective supervision and personnel management of the clinical informatics staff and resources working on clinical training and informatics initiatives
· Reviews medical informatics trends and regulatory requirements impacting the delivery of patient care, with support from the Quality and Compliance Department, as appropriate
· Ensures compliance with relevant regulations and standards, such as HIPAA, HITECH, and Meaningful Use
· Representing the organization to the public and to other healthcare organizations. Speaking at conferences, publishing articles and participating in other activities that promote utilizing IT in healthcare.
· Lead or participate in special projects and perform other related tasks as requested
Education
· MD, DO required
· Board certification/license in any clinical specialty. Valid US Medical License required
· Preferred: Clinical Informatics Board Certification (or board eligible)
Experience and Skills
· Must have Meditech experience
· Minimum of 5-7 years in clinical practice
· Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
· Demonstrates high level of responsiveness to users’ needs, including training and ongoing support, to assure widespread provider support and use of the information systems
· Takes accountability and responsibility for own actions with the utmost integrity
· A team player who can build collaborative relationships across the organization

Position Summary
· The CMIO will report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with a dotted line to the Chief Information Technology and Security Officer (CITSO) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO)
· This is a 24-month contracted on site position starting Oct 1, 2024
